Hi I’m a new Guinea pig owner and when I fed my guinea pig I felt something rough right under his mouth. I picked him up and saw what the thing was. It was like a small spike (idk how to explain it) there were two. I thought it was grass so I pulled on it (gently) and his mouth moved with it meaning it was attached please help.
 
Can you post a picture so we can see what you mean please.

Which country are you in? This will help taylor advice so we can help you better. This is a mainly UK based forum and we have members from all over the world.
 
If you can get a picture it will greatly help. If not can you describe it a bit better, what it looks like for example. Is it something that is attached to the skin or to the hair only? Does your boy live alone or does he have a cagemate? If he has a cagemate are they male or female?
 
I have a feeling this is a growth from to much acidic foods. But i agree with above

Hi!

Please see a vet as soon as possible. We can unfortunately not help you going just by your description and without seeing the piggy ourselves.
If you are lucky, it may be just something that is caked to the hairs under the mouth and dried in a spike. Give the are a gentle wipe with a damp, warm (but not hot rag) and see whether that is solving the problem. ;)

If you guinea pig is losing weight, please start syringe feeding fibre and water. Switch from weighing one weekly to weighing day at the same time in the feeding cycle (like before you feed the dinner veg). If your piggy is losing more than 50g/2 oz, then you step in with offering extra feed and booking a vet appointment.

This the spike I was talking about. I think he’s a year and a half old. He is a fat. The previous owner didn’t take care over him. He has long nails, he weighs 3.5 pounds.

Also I feed some vegetables a day. I typically give him some carrots, cucumbers, green pepper, lettuce, tomatoes. Those are the vegetables I feed him. I don’t give him a lot because he’s overweight. I mainly give him carrots and lettuce because we have more of that.
 
I would avoid giving him too much carrot as it is very high in sugar. Also I would avoid too much lettuce (too watery) and tomatoes (too acidic). Veg shouldn’t make him overweight, perhaps you are over feeding pellets a bit? The spike kind of looks like his hair a bit clumped together doesn’t it?
 
My first guinea pig, Jasper, had something that you just described. I got worried too but I found it was only clumped hair. Make sure that before you go to the vet that it is not just a hair problem.

Yes the previous owner overfed him pellets. I don’t feed him pellets anymore. I’ve had him for about 3 weeks now.

How do I know it’s a clump of hair? I did the water thing the other person was talking about and it didn’t go away.
 
Is he living with another male piggie, it could be a bit of dried boar glue?
 
Was it warm water? Sometimes stuff gets stuck and it can be stubborn to move things that get attached.
I've had a look at the photo and really can't determine what it could be.
From the weight, your pig seems to be eating very well, I assume your pig gets lots of hay too?

Have another go at doing the cleaning.

Ok I will. Yes he always has hay but I feed only a little bit of vegetables because he’s overweight.

I did it and it’s still there. I’ll wait another day (for it to dry) and then see if it’s still there.
