Herbadurp
New Born Pup
Hello All!
I have a 3 year old guinea pig named Herbert, who just had a bladder stone removed 4 weeks ago. On Monday, the vet saw that another one has formed and sent me home to perform subcutaneous fluid therapy on him for the next two weeks, so we can flush his bladder of other sediment and attempt to dissolve the stone (which is unlikely). Only problem is, he is an extremely fidgety little pig. For the past two days, my mother and I have tried to give him fluids but he jumps, screams, and kicks. I feel defeated, the vet tech made it look so simple, but even when she demonstrated it on him he was screaming his little lungs out. I will call the vet and ask her for some suggestions or alternatives, but I wanted to reach out and ask if anyone here has any tips. After each failed attempt, I have been giving him water via syringe about 12 ml two to three times a day. For his fluid therapy, he is supposed to receive 50-100 ml per day along with 50 mg of liquid children's vitamin C by mouth. His activity level and appetite is the same, and he does not appear to be in any pain while urinating. He is also happily drinking away from his water bottle, which makes me happy but I know I need to get extra fluids in him somehow. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!
