Hey guys, new to this page. I was wondering if anyone would be able to shed some light on my piggy. When I was giving my pig a bath the other day. I noticed one of his toes were swollen and his nail was red. I don't know what it is, it could have been a bite from something or what not, not sure. Just wondering if any of you have experienced this. He's not complaining, not making noises, still eats, still runs, doesn't limp. If anyone can advice me on this issue would be much appreciated

Welcome to the Forum
:wel:

And well done for spotting it - it does look nasty.
The first thing to do is check that there isn't a long hair wrapped around the toe somewhere, which is stopping the blood supply.
If there isn't then I would still get your piggie along to a vet to have the toe checked. It is good that it doesn't seem to be affecting him, but it should be looked at in case there is an infection brewing. The sooner it is treated the less serious it is likely to be.

Good luck - he looks like a very sweet piggie.

Ouch that toe looks nasty! Definitely needs a vet check. What a gorgeous, chilled out piggy though, he's lovely, that little face!

Hope you get it sorted.

I agree. Please have him seen by a vet as he may need a course of antibiotics and pain relief if there is an infection.

My Edwards nail went similar to that after he pulled his nail our right down to the quick.

Thankfully his wasn't infected so all I did was bathe it with warm salty water BUT he did see a vet just to double check.

:agr: He needs to see a vet as the toe is swollen and there could be an infection. Well done for spotting it. Please let us know what the vet says. He is absolutely gorgeous looking

Hi and welcome!

Please have that seen by a vet. It is either an infection or an injury to his toe/quick.

Nothing to add to the suggestions so far. WHAT A SWEET LOOKING GUINEA PIG.

Cheers guys, I appreciate the greetings, support and feedback. Vlad (my guinea pig, yes that's his name lol) is currently at the vet. I'll have him back by the weekend. Doc hasn't said anything but he assured me it wasn't life threatening. I'll let you know of his progress
