Hello everyone,

I am looking for some advice.

I have been told that maybe some guinea pigs on here could help me?

My human friend has not been providing me with enough lettuce and veg. I have made this VERY clear with my very loud wheeks every time she breathes, but she just does not listen to me a cup of veg a day is NOT ENOUGH!

I don’t understand this lack of veg considering she has an endless supply (I know she does I hear bags ruffling all the time!) and I have been providing her with the correct currency in return (a marvellous amount of poops).

Please can anyone help me?

Dear Babychino Hazel

I hear you feel hard done by and that your human friend doesn't give you enough veg. A cup of veg is the recommended amount for us piggies, however, although it's the recommended daily amount doesn't mean that is all we should get. We always want more veg. Veg is lovely, it's healthy and it's gives us the nutrients we need to keep flourishing and in the pink.

You have tried the wheeking tactic and the poop payment too which clearly haven't worked. Here are another few tips that may help you to get more of the yummy stuff

• Put your feet up on the bars of your cage and look beseechingly at your human friend
• Look half starved by putting your feet up on your food bowl
• Take up bar biting (though not so hard you break your teeth)
• Turn your back on her whenever she talks to you or comes into the room
• Play the fun game that is catch me if you can whenever she tries to pick you up

Also I have decided that the new custodian of the Cup of Disgrace is your human friend. @weepweeps has given it a polish so that its nice and shiny to hand over to you @Edam.

Dear Sir Saxon,

Many thanks for your reply, I am glad that I am finally heard and this injustice has been noted.

Some very good tips there, my dad Freddie does like to use the paws on the bars tactic, but I have not quite mastered it yet, I will keep practicing. There is one spot I have tried to bar bite a little, maybe I should take it up some more. Freddie seems to get more veg by just letting the human pick him up easily for cuddles and treats whilst hugging (I make my annoyance at this VERY known). I don't know whether to try this tactic, I agree with you that the catch me if you can game is far more fun!

This morning during veg time I tried to show my human just how starved I am by only eating the lettuce leaves from Freddie and Hexie's mouths, and ignoring the pile of perfectly fine leaves in front of me. Hopefully she will see that the amount she is giving us is NOT enough.

She is very deserving of the cup of disgrace, I thank you for handing this over to my human friend!

I can't believe I have been handed it! I think I give them more veg than perhaps I should do (Freddie's chonkiness might just be an indication of that....!)... I think all the lettuce in the world wouldn't be enough for Hazel She is definitely the boss in our house!

I can't believe it. My human friend got up this morning AND DIDN'T FEED US ANY VEG!!

She waffled something about being late for work blah blah blah

We had to wait for the back up human to feed us our veggies, although it was late he did feed us more than usual as consolation.

I am preparing some very loud wheeks for when she gets home later.

That is just terrible behaviour by your human she should have learnt here lesson in being awarded the Cup of Disgrace. At least the back up human gave you your veggies which sounds as if your human must have asked him to. Back up humans are good in the fact that they aren't so stingy as the normal human and sometimes give you loads of yummy stuff to chomp through.

You tell your human off when she comes home and maybe ask Hexie and Freddie to join in too.

Hello everyone! Sorry I have been a bit AWOL lately, I have been so busy with work that I haven’t managed to be on here as much.

I had to share this little update though, I am so proud of Hexie and how far she has come, relaxing outside was not something she would ever do for long periods (especially if anyone was in the room!) and now look at her lounging whilst I was on the sofa! Also lounging right at the front of the cage! Their cage is an L shape and this is the tip of the L closest to where I was on the sofa and she sat there for ages! I am so proud!

Freddie is in the tunnel and babychino Hazel also lounging out made me so happy too, I am so blessed with how well they are getting on with each other

Ps I am going to start fostering Hamsters so they will come to me before being adopted permanently. I feel a little nervous to start this as it has been a while since I’ve had a hamster and their care requirements understanding in cage setup etc. has changed a lot (for the better!) over the past years but I am hoping I will be ok!

How is everyone? I will take some time to look at some updates today on respective blogs

PS: I have sadly lost two of my youngest boars within 3 weeks during and after the 5th heatwave last month.

Hey Wiebke, I hope all is well. I have seen a couple of your health updates and am glad to hear you are keeping your brilliant attitude and doing more walking. It is so lovely to see the GPs relaxing isn't it? I just feel so happy to watch them grow and be happy Oh no that is so sad to hear about the boars, I am so sorry for your losses, they were lucky to live such a great life with you and I hope you have taken some time to be kind to yourself and grieve. The heatwaves have been horrific, I have never been so happy for it to become autumn. Sending hugs and well wishes as always xx

I am very nervous, for some reason all hamster people online I have seen have been very intense, and quite rude/judgemental - I think I have been on the wrong side of the internet haha, thanks so much for the recommendation for the Hamster Forum, it would be great to see the other side of hamster owners (supportive and reassuring!).
