Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum! You can call me Clover :)

I've had my two guinea pigs (Missy and Luna) for about 8 months now, but they are nearly four years old. Since I got them, I've been using aspen wood shavings in their cage, but I want to change over to fleece. I've weighed the pros and cons, and overall think it will work best for me and my pigs. I plan to sew my own fleece liners and use only fleece (no kitchen area with loose bedding).

But I have one big question that I haven't been able to find an answer for: about how much fleece should I start off with? I know this will kind of depend on a few different factors, but for main cage liners, 1x2 liners, smaller potty pads, etc., what's a good starting place for quantities?

Thanks so much!

Hello! I would start off with 2 liners so that once one is dirty you can quickly replace it. The more the merrier for the future! Depending on the size of the cage and where they like to potty, probably 2 smaller pee pads for now will do. I think that would be a good start!

I highly recommend incopads, which have been discussed several times on here. I use them for their hay/feeding area and they work well so far. I changed them yesterday, after...2 days, and there was no smell like there would be with puppy pads.

As above I recommend at least two liners. One to use while you wash the other one. And you can see several pee pads to use under hides, so you can change regularly as needed.

If you’re using fleece in their hay area, I’d say have three for that area. Then you can change regularly without having to wash every other day or whatever.

I have 2 main liners per cage, and a large pile of pads for under houses etc.
I have pads in a variety of sizes - some are quite big for messy corners and under large wooden hides, and some are smaller rand work well under water bottles and food dishes.

Once you sew a few pads you will see that they are pretty easy and a great way to use up left over pieces of fleece, so you will soon end up with lots!
