I'm so happy that Boris has full movement -that is the best outcome possible! Perhaps you have some hard wood that doesn't splinter for him to gnaw on?

Yay, I am so pleased that Boris is recovering well. After everything the poor boy has been through, it sounds like he has made a fantastic achievement. Well Done Boris and well done you :)p Can't wait to see the pics x

What fantastic news! amazing and heartwarming journey to get to this day, good old Boris. I am so happy for you and him. Well done x

That's fantastic news. Glad he is doing well and has good movement. That's just really nice to hear and I'm so glad for you, your OH and Boris. You guys did a fantastic job looking after him and fighting for him even when things looked really bad!

i have tried unfortunantly Boris won't chew any wooden toys at all the only wood i have seen him chew is his piggy basket in the loungerolleyes but he has little abc blocks and other toys and not one of them has even had a nibble so that might be some of the reson that they are long xxxxx

i will post some pics i am so happy although not raising my hopes to much yet Boris still has weeks and possibly a couple of months until he is completly recovered or at least able to function normally without my help all the time.

He is looking so much happier and healthier. He has got a way to go, but he is looking much better without his splint. Yay Boris and co!

He's looking so much brighter! So good to see!

BIG NEWS yay

hi all,
I just thought i would let you know about Boris's achievement today!
I had him out on the floor and i was laying down in front of him and silly enough i was baby talking to him and telling him to come closer to me.So he pulled his black leg up into walking position and was sticking his head out far trying to get closer and took a step he struggled like mad,his body was shaking because he was trying so hard on jelly legs.and then he collapsed after his big effort, but only a few minutes later he tried again and took one more step:))i know its not huge progress but it was the highlight of all the hard work with him,he never ceases to amaze me,sadly his pink foot didnt move a bit but i think in time he may regain full use of the black one i am so proud of my boy:)):)):)):))

That is fantastic news! massaging his legs and feet may help too!

Good to hear - I'm still hoping that he will be able to be normal piggy again when he's recovered!

hi thanks for thinking of my boyxx>>> He is well although wetting himself so his belly needs cleaning every few hoursrolleyes we are going to start the swimming therapy tomorrow around midday as it is cold weather here right now,he has been particuarly happy with me and my recent discovery that piggies can have pak choy,he thinks it tastes great. If anyone has any tips on swimming and drying him afterwards that would be great because he is very delicate I'm not sure the best way to wash and dry? i have a special towel made for piggies so hopefully that should help dry him quicker xxxxx

my mum also told me i should use olive or canola oil i can't remember which one she said is ok but she said it will help with his skin because its so dry?

Hello. I'm really happy to read of Boris's progress, thanks for keeping us updated.

Olive oil is excellent for sore skin, but it does stick the fur together and remove the insulating effect of the undercoat, the fluffy bit. So apply only to the sore bits!

Poor little lad. I've never used a hairdryer on piggies, I don't know about that. To keep Columbia warm when she had cancer and no spare fat on her but needed washing due to a mucky rear she couldn't clean for herself because of the swellings, I used a towel wrapped over a hot water bottle for her to lie on and another towel to dry her. Then she could stay on the warmth or move off it as she wished. I don't know how Boris is going to be at retaining his own heat, he might cool down really quickly and get shivery like she used to as he still isn't well. So perhaps a hottie just at hand in case it's needed and spare towels would do it. Columbia used to really enjoy the warmth and loved bath time!

Hope this helps, others may have better advice, Sarah x

I'm happy to hear he's OK and good luck with the swim therapy...

Good luck with the swimming therapy and the hot water bottle!

Use little bits of his favourite food to reward him and give plenty of praise and encouragement (like with a dog) when he is doing things right. Send him the feeling how precious he is to you and how proud you are of him. He'll be less frightened and catch on quicker that way!

HAVE FUN and be prepared to get wet! And keep us posted, please!

A hair dryer is great if Boris is unaffected by the sound of it. Some pigs freak out when you switch a dryer on, some couldn't care less. A good long snuggle in the towel is always good! Great idea with a hot water bottle too, or an animal heat pad.

Easiest way to do the therapy is probably to fill the bathtub with warm water - enough that he can stand up and not get his nose or mouth in it. Better to work with shallow water while he's still wobbly, you don't want him to struggle in slightly deeper water (where he would have to walk/stand/swim). Encourage him to walk about in it, feed him little bits of Pak Choi to help encourage him to walk towards you. Let him go for as long as he is happy and moving, around 5-10 minutes is good.

I did a form of swim/physiotherapy for one of my piggies a couple of years ago, he had been mutilating his own foot (bit all his nails off and bit his foot - we think due to nerve damage) and I held him upright in a bowl of water so he could flex and strengthen his toes and move his back legs around in it. It worked very quickly, just 3-5 minutes twice a day and there was noticeable improvement within just a few days, he got some strength and definition back in his toes.

You're doing a sterling job with him, I really hope he gets his strength and some normal function back very soon. x
