I'm hoping to get a C&C cage

So I've decided to switch from vet bed and puppy pads to fleece liners as it seems it's going to be very hard to get puppy pads and vet bed in sizes that will fit. How thick are fleece liners? The ones I'm going to get are from CandEcosies. And therefore is it better to have 2 liners half the size of the cage rather than one liner as big as the cage?

I would say yes to getting two liners, it’s my biggest regret from our proper liners and it is huge and so heavy when I am trying to get all the hay off it! Ours is 150x75cm - it doesn’t even fill our cage anymore but I wish I have got two half the size!

Yes washing machines struggle to spin the larger liners, in my big cage we use 3 separate 2x3 liners which are a nice convenient size :)

A little update:

I've worked out how I'm going to make a lid. It's going to be like the one in the Guinea Piggles video but instead of one opening along the front it'll be two 1x3 areas that open at either end leaving a 2x3 areas of grids in the middle that doesn't open. This seems nice and sturdy and hopefully means I can reach to sweep poos out of.
Here's the video:

I've decided I'm going to make a table instead of using 56 grids to make a stand (more than I need for the cage!) I'll get some plywood from B&Q, cut it to size and screwin table legs.

Once I've made sure I can find plywood I think I'm all set and can start ordering everything! I'm so excited 😄😄😄

I made a table for our cage, it’s so much better than the grids, I just used planks from wicks they came 180cm long and 5 together made 70cm wide!

Cut it in half. I did with a long liner that I had. Its fine. Havent even got round to sewing up the open ends yet and it still washes well and hasnt unravelled.

Eveything has arrived :yahoo: :yahoo: Once the liners have been washed I'm all set to start building. I was wondering though will I see an increase in dominance behaviour as it is a new space? I will make sure some older hay and used cosies go in it so it still smells like them.

Yes you are likely to see dominance. They will need to rest their territories etc.

Tomorrow I'm finally going to build the cage (I've been busier than I expected this week so I haven't had time) but I was thinking about the need to re establish territory. Will it just be a case of increased rumble strutting and things like that or does it depend on the guinea pigs?

I'm meeting family on Sunday so they'll be at home in the new cage on their own all day on their first full day in the new cage. Will they be alright? I feel I'm overthinking this but I wanted to ask anyway.

It’s usually just an increase in dominance. More strutting, chasing etc. Or They may be fine and you don’t notice any change in behaviour!

I didn’t notice a change in behaviour on our boys when we upgraded their cage!

You know to use the same bedding? Don’t put in any fresh fleece items etc. Leave it a few days before doing anything like that

Hi sorry I'm back nagging you again. Should today give them enough time to settle in before I'm out tomorrow? I have to build it too so they'll have less than a day

When my pigs moved into their C&C from outside I put them in at about 4PM and they were fine and settled in quite nicely overnight

The cage itself is built and the table is under construction still. The table was the first thing we (me my dad and my brother) started on this morning but we immediately ran into a problem. The screws that fix the table legs to the plywood would come up through the top of the plywood so we had to get some planks of wood from B&Q so make it thick enough. The last leg is going in now.
Me and my brother are going to measure the correx now and then we can do the lid.
Thanks for asking 😊
