I’m worried my piggy Otis might have
Something she has a little crust around her eye and is sneezing a bit more then what seems like the normal amount and has been a little more irritated when being held, like more squirmy and even a lil biting. I have 2 pigs and I’m not sure which one, but one of their poops have been darker and softer. She paws at her nose too I’ve noticed. The crust is like a yellowy whitey ind of colour I can’t tell exactly and (sorry) I couldn’t get a picture cuz the crust is small right now and she’s squirmy I also read it could be a vitamin c thing if anyone thinks it’s that, how should I get her to eat her vitamins ( she hasent yet) What I’ve seen online says this could be a upper respiratory infection but I’m not a doctor. Does anyone know if it’s cause for alarm? I just recently got her so I don’t know what’s normal for her.

We cannot diagnose anything. The symptoms you mention can be connected to a respiratory infection. Such an infection requires a vet to diagnose and prescribe treatment. Please have her seen by a vet soon.

With a balanced diet (a mostly hay based diet with some varied veggies (ones containing Vit c daily such as bell pepper and coriander) and a limited amount of nuggets), she should not require any additional vitamin supplements. Again though, only a vet will be able to confirm if there is a vitamin deficiency somewhere.

Let us know how you get on at the vets

Definitely sounds like she needs a vet check in the next 24-48 hours, if she does have a URI these can get worse quite fast and will need prompt treatment with antibiotics from the vet. Vitamin C deficiency is rare in piggies fed a good diet, some peppers and coriander and leafy veg quite easily meet their vit C needs usually with no need for supplements. But again the vet can advise, especially if you havent had your piggies long, a thorough vet check is always a good idea for new pets anyway!

It could be a lack of vitamin c, she wasn’t eating her c pellets, so I’m trying a new way of getting her the vitamins she needs and if this is still happening then I will take her to the vet really soon. Thanks for the help really appreciate.

Good

There is a good chance it is a vitamin c thing since she hasent been eating her c pellets or peppers (I’m not sure she was fed greens at the petstore) so I’m trying a new way of getting her vitamins. If it’s not cleared up then I’m going strait to the vet. Thanks for the advice I’m probably gonna have a check up for both of them real soon anyway lol I’m paranoid.

It’s unlikely it’s vit c related. Hay contains vitamin c, and with hay needing to be the biggest part of her diet, she will be getting enough Vit c.
The symptoms don’t sound like the typical scurvy symptoms (loss of condition, difficulty walking, weight loss), the symptoms sound more like URI symptoms, please don’t delay seeing a vet, if it is a uri, then she will not get better just by you trying to get vitamins into her. Piggies can deteriorate from URIs very quickly and it requires antibiotic treatment
