Hi
I have 6 Guinea pigs - all with lice. Realise they need Ivermectin. Anyone any ideas or suggestions about how to get several pigs dosed and treated correctly and successfully without paying exorbitantly?
(Nb am bracing myself for the preachers..!)

It’s not a case of us being preachers - the forum has to comply with UK law in which only a vet can diagnose and treat.

A vet will need to prescribe treatment according to their weights and product dosing and as a full course (usually three separate treatments with a number of weeks between each treatment (product specific)), not a pet shop product.
Xeno 450 is the best treatment but it is not in supply at present. Vets seem to now be prescribing an alternative but it has to be used under vet instruction.

Pet shop products are too low dosed to be effective. The may temporarily suppress the lice but often the issue returns hence it then ends up costing you twice as much and you still need to see a vet.

You also need to disinfect and replace hay etc.

Welcome to the forum.
Sorry you think you might get preached at - that is not something we do on the forum, at least not intentionally.

Sorry you have a lice problem.
Has a vet diagnosed this ?
Unfortunately there are no shortcuts to getting treatment other than through a vet who will prescribe the correct dosage, although one of our health experts may correct me.

They will also know where Invermectin can be sourced.
Sadly vet and medication costs are high these days.
Hope you can get your piggies sorted out.
