Janey’s Piggies

I’ve just come across your thread and I was just about to say what a beautiful little trio you have 🥰 but I’m so sorry Meggie has crossed the rainbow bridge 😞 But you’re left with a beautiful Duo 🥰 x

So sorry for your loss, clearly she was very much loved.

I am glad your other piggies are doing ok. Sending you all the best.

Thank you, still missing my precious little Moomie. Some just hit you harder than others.

Selwyn, looking quite wet yet fluffy after the final ringworm bath! Dori isn’t yet on speaking terms with me after a valiant effort to avoid having the Itrafungol, quickly followed by her final bath too!

Glad the bathing has ended. Selwyn’s look says “I haven’t forgiven you yet!”

I’m also very glad we’ve done the final bath too! I feel like a mean mummy 😅. I’ve also got rid of the old floor time pen they used to have - it was well over due needing to be replaced, so a nice clean environment for them now. They can stay in there overnight as I’ve rather run out of energy today; deep clean of their cage to do tomorrow, then hopefully, we’re done with it!

As there’s a big age gap between Dori (5 this month) and Selwyn (16 months), I’ve been on a waiting list at a rescue for a single girl. My thoughts were that I didn’t want Selwyn to be lonely when Dori passes (she’s absolutely fine at the moment)! They messaged me last night to say they have a baby girl available early May. I’m now wondering if it’s best to go ahead and try to bond this baby or wait until Selwyn is on his own? It’d probably be easier to bond another piggy with him, rather than with them both …. Originally, I wanted to add another piggy, to make up a trio, after losing Meggie in January, knowing how difficult it is to find single sows. For reference Dori and Selwyn seem to get on well and I’m not sure if adding another piggy would spoil that. Any thoughts you might have will be very welcome! I need to get back to the rescue today.

Ah how lovely but what a difficult decision ….
It would be easier to bond a baby and the baby would learn from both Dori and Selwyn
I can’t really offer definitive advice but I’m sure someone will be along to advise

Thanks Roselina, appreciate your thoughts! That’s also pretty much where I get to as well! I know it’s not an easy call to make either way - but the chances of a single girl being available when something happens with Dori are very small. At least this way, providing they accept each other, we’re all covered for a good while, hopefully.

Is there anyway you could take the baby back to the rescue if the bonding doesn't work out, personality-wise?

Given the baby is available soon and you are looking to add to your herd, pre-empting losing Dori one day, then I think it makes sense to go for it now. I had a baby companion for my old gal Caramac and they bonded straight away. Baby Cino just followed her about like a shadow. Hopefully it will be straight forward!

I didn’t actually ask that, but I’m sure they would as it’s the same rescue that Selwyn came from and they said they’d take him back if the bonding with Dori and Meggie didn’t work out. I will of course make sure to check that though!

The rescue have been in touch and we’ve arranged I’ll collect the new piggy on Saturday 2 May 😊. Naturally, my brain has been very busy thinking of names and therefore, didn’t get much sleep last night!

They sent me a pic of her with two other piggies in a carrier, looks like mum and sister to me, so not a very detailed/complete view of her, but I do have a probable name, whittled down from a longer list, that seems to fit her. Will have to see what she’s like when she gets here and I start getting to see her personality develop.
