Hi,
I am really devastated as one of my Guinea pigs died last night she was sister to my surviving piggy.
I love them so much and I am incredibly worried about my lone Guinea pig (Elsa) and how she will cope. I have had Guinea pigs before but when one of the sister died that time they were both quite old (7 years) so the remaining pig was not alone for too long. My worry with Elsa is she is only 2 and a half years old (Anna my pig who passed away was the same age which is why I am even more devastated).
I've heard introducing anothwr guinea pig can be difficult but the thought of Elsa even spending tonight alone is heartbreaking, and thinking of her being lonely for another potentially 4 years or so is even worse.
I am happy to have another Guinea pig I was just wondering if anyone has any advice on doing so? I am thinking of a female Guinea pig too. Elsa is not particularly dominant she is really friendly if a little shy.
Thank you so much xx

I am so sorry that you have suffered a sudden bereavement. Big hugs x

When you feel up to it please feel free to post a thread in our Rainbow Bridge section as a tribute.

Here is a thread about caring for a bereaved guinea Pig. Looking After A Bereaved Guinea Pig

Piggies do not do well alone long term, so you are right to think about finding Elsa a companion. Either a single sow or a neutered boar would be an option for her. I'm not sure where you are situated but please feel free to check out the Rescues Locator at the top of the page to find your nearest rescue. Many rescues offer bonding sessions so you can find a companion who suits Elsa in terms of personality. Finding the right personality is often more important than the age of the piggy in terms of getting a match.

Please let us know how you get on.

I am so sorry to hear of the death of your guinea pig, such a horrible shock for you. Hugs to you and Elsa, I hope you can find her a new friend very soon.

I'm sorry for your sudden loss and too soon gone Anna.:agr: with the comments above, hope you find Elsa a new compatible new friend.:hug:s to you.

Thank you so much for your reply - I had no idea that you could have compatibility sessions that is such a great idea I will definitely look into it! I am in the Manchester area. It was just such a shock as I came home from being away at university so I also feel guilty for not being there!
Thank so much for your help and good thoughts I will keep the thread updated xxxxxx

Thank you so much for your kind words Elsa and I really appreciate it! Xxxxx

If you are prepared to travel a bit your nearest rescues are The Potteries GPR in Kidsgrove, Millhaven in West Yorkshire and BARC. I will tag @pig in the city who fosters for BARC to see if she may have any suitable piggies. I shall also ask at The Potteries for you.
Thanks again for your help I will 100% consider these places you've recommended! Thanks for tagging them xx

Sorry that you lost your girlie pig, its very hard when they are relatively young. I have 2 single sows and two single neutered boars but they have dates lined up in the next 2 weeks. If any fall through then l will let you know

Thanks so much for your thoughts & that sounds great! Good luck xx

I am sorry for your loss, hope you and Elsa are doing ok.
I have a lone little girl who needs to be separated from her son in a few days time and she will be looking for a friend as my other girls did not seem to want to accept her. I wanted to keep her but as when I tried to bond before my other girls got all huffy I don't want her to be on her own. As I am rehoming her I would rather be safe in the knowledge that she will have a good home. I live in the Manchester area as well (about 20mins from city centre by train, but I do drive). I would be willing to try out a bonding session for the 2 girls if you would like? My little girl is called Ruby. I have added a picture. I understand if you would rather go to a rescue but I just thought it might be an option.

I have private messaged you! Xx

Just to keep anyone interested updated we were very kindly offered a friend for Elsa, Ruby, who we picked up last night and the two girls are getting on really well already!
Elsa is definitely much happier and the two of them will become close very quickly I think ☺️ Xx

I am so happy that this worked out for our girls. I never saw ruby so happy to have some company, she was very excited. Hope they have settled in well in their hutch together and that Ruby has come out of her shell a bit. Hope Elsa is happy with her new little friend.

Thanks again! I will let you know how they get on they are doing great so far x

Thanks for the update! I wish the two girls a happy life together! It is always such a relief to see your remaining piggy happy again and not have to worry about it anymore. That leaves you free to cope with your own loss in your own time.
