Maisie Has Cystitis

weighed her and she's dropped quite low again. down at 921g. it's low for her and her frame. thankfully she seems fairly bright and her eyes still look bright. never loses her appetite of course. she's not squeaking very much, just occasionally, so i'm not sure if it's the same infection just still not completely gone, or whether there is something else going on. i've booked her in at the vets so we'll see how we go. sooo nervous. hate things like this.

Poor Maisie :( let us know how she gets on, xray will rule out stones and give you peace of mind. It may be her bladder is a little inflamed still, is she on metacam at all?

maisie is back on metacam now yes.

yesterday we rang to say maisie is squeaking again when weeing, and has lost weight, and that bisc my rabbit might need a dental aswell because he's not eating as much hay, and his poops are smaller.

anyway, so they wrote down that we would have an appointment as usual and then they would stay if needed. turns out they both needed to stay... but the vet was really busy and they asked if they could change the day. i know i shouldn't get stressed but we wouldn't have bothered going all that way if we had known. the taxi is £50 a time, and i just wish they would have phoned when they realised they would be too busy.

i understand that some others have to take priority, but i just hate this kind of hassle. it was so hard for me today to leave the house and i nearly fainted from the anxiety, so to know we have to go all the way back again this week just makes me

plus we have to pay the taxi again, and then at a reduced rate the same day to go and collect them aswell later on.

sorry for the moan, just having a bad day.

so now we have to wait to see what day we're going again. maisie will be having xrays and another urine sample taken. if she has sludge then they will flush her bladder. anything else and we have to discuss a treatment plan. she's also having her cysts checked on xray and she will most likely be starting hormone treatment for those. and her arthritis ankle will be looked at on xray aswell to see if she needs to go on metacam for it now, aswell as having physio. she's also dropped back to her lowest weight again.

bisc is on the verge of needing a dental, which we know from experience means that he will be hiding more spurs out of sight. he's still eating but not as much as normal. he's actually gained weight but that is because i have been letting him have extra profibre pellets to make up for the reduced hay he's been having. luckily he's well and still doing sprints and binkies, but obviously he will just get worse so best to get the dental done sooner.

oh, and eddie squealed like a girl when the vet got him out

he's never done that before!

and eddie is way too fat now. probably because maisie is losing weight. but he's a beast!

i don't know if any of you know on here, but i suffer badly with mental health issues. i hardly leave the house. i have bdd, anxiety, panic attacks, depression and all that fun stuff. so i pretty much only go to the vets and drs. i can't go for a walk, or get a bus, answer the door, things like that etc. i also hardly see my own family aswell because of the bdd. i do the vets trips because i love the pets as much as i hate myself. i find it extremely difficult though to be honest. so this today has really set me in a bad way. we are so lucky that the taxi driver we use is lovely and has taken us for years and years now, so i feel ok with him. o/h is always there aswell because i can't go anywhere alone. anyway, don't want to go on, but thought it might explain why i am so upset about today. and then the worry about the pets aswell.

maisie is in for her xrays and tests now so fingers crossed. missing them loads, as my rabbit bisc is in for his dental aswell so i have an empty house. it's horrible! can't wait to go and pick them up again.

Hope all goes well, paws crossed here for her and Bisc x x

not long been home!

maisie had her xrays which showed that her kidneys are fine, and she has no sludge or stones.

they took a urine sample directly from her bladder and tested that, and that is showing that she still has very high levels of bacteria, inflammatory cells and blood. the sample also contained some crystals which potentially could end up causing stones if we don't get this under control. but for now they haven't become stones yet. but the vet nurse said that the urine sample they collected had alot of mucus aswell. so basically she has a chronic cystitis.

the vet thinks that her cysts may be the issue here, and be an immunosuppressant, so are contributing to the cystitis, or at least are stopping maisie from being able to fully clear the infection. so she has been started on hcg treatment for the cysts, and she had her first injection today, and will have her second in around 7-10 days, and that should be it for now hopefully.

the xray also showed the arthritis in her right ankle. we are continuing with physio but she will need to have metacam when it's bad. so we need to learn how to spot that really. not sure how.

so she's on another three week course of treatment now. metacam, cerenia, and marbocyl. hcg injection in 7-10 days, and then we'll see where we are at then.

she coped really well today and started eating hay as soon as we got home. and eddie coped well aswell.

Oh bless her, is good that you have some answers though and thank you as this has given me some ideas for my Maddie.

Hope she responds well to the treatment.

Poor little one, hope the current round of treatment works. How did Bisc get on also? X

thanks for asking. he did fine. had his spurs burred and is already gradually eating more and more since we have been back.

maisie and eddie are just having their (late!) tea aswell and are doing fine. thought they'd be a bit nervous when we got back but they're not. just carrying on as normal so that's brill. x

quick update. was expecting maisie to have a drop in weight after the stress of yesterday but she hasn't. stable with what she was when we went back at the beginning of the week. very low for her at 890g on tuesday, and 895g today, but stable after yesterday i think is fantastic.

she takes the metacam and cerenia fine. hates marbocyl, as ches did when he had it. but still lets me syringe it anyway. she's really good. has her trusty slice of cucumber reward afterwards and some cuddles and just gets on with it.

she's eating and drinking and behaving normally. heard some squeaks last night when we had a wee, but haven't heard any today so far.

overall really pleased with how she is. :)

maisie just gulped down all her meds, just because she was so desperate for her slice of cucumber reward :)) it was even worth the dreaded marbocyl! :hmm: love my girl. :luv:

Oh bless her, Maddie has got good with her meds too as she thinks every syringe contains Dioralyte.

always helpful when they drink the meds themselves isn't it. :)) she doesn't like marbocyl one bit but still takes it well. mind you, she was huffy with it last night after her long day at the vets. have no idea how she tucked her head that far under herself to get away from me!

love to maddie. :luv:

bit of squeaking last night so i put her metacam up a bit (to within the range they said i could), and it's stopped again now. she's 905g, still bright and happy. and we both can see her hair is shinier. she doing well. :)

she's very neat with her weight gain isn't she. 10g a day though would be brilliant if it continues. :)

905g today. still stable and they'll be little ups and downs, so still doing well. a little bit of squeaking again but she's fine in herself which is the main thing. :)

Thats great! I have a pig with stones and she lost 100g in three days! We are currently on critical care, cystaid, septrin, metacam and vitamin C. Monitoring her weight twice a day hoping to see improvements. She is getting there! Good luck to Maisie!

oh bless her. that's a big weight loss and a pharmacy full of meds! my ches would drop weight in a short time aswell. he had sludge.

love to your girl and thanks for the luck for maisie. thankfully she seems to stay bright and always eats her usual amount aswell :))
