Minnou’s piggies

'Gaia! Minerva! Attack!' - I say whenever someone is bothering me.

*cue two guinea pigs staring dumbly at me*

*picks up Gaia and receives a mauling*

Me: 'I said to attack them'

Gaia: 'Oh I heard....' *continues to maul me instead*

:/

Well, Miss Attitude panicked and almost ran face first into a wall earlier because I opened the cutlery draw (something she has heard 50,000 times and usually comes running towards because she knows the tools which cut the carrot and the apple are kept in there). 🙄

Today, Minerva decided that instead of carrying a pile of hay on her back then just dumping it anywhere (as she frequently does), she would use it to block the entrance of the hide Gaia was in.

This all worked out rather splendidly for Gaia, who now had breakfast in bed, but I'm not sure if that was Minerva's intention or if she just wanted to trap her. 🤔

Since the girls are always very interested in me cleaning their cage (but not helping) they're always in the way! I end up cleaning around them and when I try to sweep up the hay they've chucked everywhere, they are almost certainly sat in the path of the brush and in the direction the hay is going flying, so, I have to keep one hand free to cover their eyes. 🙄

I'm certain they know why I've plonked my hand over their face or centimetres from it like some giant, fleshy 'stop' sign since they still won't move and Gaia doesn't maul me. But they could just turn their backs or something instead of expecting me to protect their peepers. 🙄

'I'll make the pair of them work for their snacks today!'

*places snacks on top of something they could easily hop up on top of - Minerva has done it hundreds of times*

*watch as they both stand on their hind legs and reach up and grab everything that they can, until only the hardest to reach snacks remain, then get down, look at me and start crying until I just give them the rest*

🙄 🙄 🙄

Since it is shockingly warm and dry out 😱 I put them both out in the run in the back garden yesterday and I will do so again!

Although when I did that yesterday, Gaia marched under a box and refused to venture out of it for the duration. 🙄

At least Minerva bimbled about for a bit, sampling the fresh delicacies.

If I reach in and pat Minerva you can 100% guarantee that Gaia will dive out of her lair and come running over just to sniff Minerva's breath and check that Minerva isn't receiving extra snacks when she's not there.

Food envy is real. 🙄

Can guinea pigs eat sweet potato?

Because I've found one of my potatoes has obviously been chomped on with very suspicous guinea pig-like tooth marks in it and I need to know if they've poisoned themselves.

Cheese and crackers!

That Minerva realised she could open a door and went after the rest of the potatoes! Got a couple of bites out of a normal potato before I caught her.

I'm moving the potatoes somewhere above 5ft and now have to watch she doesn't get diarrhea or bloat.

Omg Minerva is a rascal !
I hope she’ll be ok !
It’s like having a toddler in your house 🥰

Minerva is fine~! No bloat or diarrhea or weird looking poops and she's still eating like a pig and wondering where her potatoes have gone. 🙄

Gaia is horrified that Minerva ate a potato because I regularly call them potatoes and now she thinks Minerva is a cannibal.

In our house it’s “out of the teeth zone”. Glad Minerva is ok

This huge sweet potato turned up in our groceries a few weeks ago, I took this photo cos it was bigger than a piggy (Bandit had a nibble and decided she didn’t like it 😅)

Poor Gaia she’ll be wary now 😂

Minerva would be delighted to have such a potato. :xd:

I've had the girls for about 18 months now? And they're both afraid to try new things and the potatoes have been in the same spot, out of sight, for the entire time I've had the girls and they have NEVER shown the slightest bit of interest in the potatoes and then suddenly Minerva decides she's going to push the door out the way, pounce on a potato and start eating it and decides the next day she will do the same!

She has been getting more adventurous lately and I wonder if that has anything to do with it. She was following me around yesterday, watching me do chores. Didn't offer to help though. :/

Maybe they’re more adventurous as the weather warms up? The floor is more inviting 🤔
Maybe! Even Gaia has been poking around more than usual.

And deciding to crawl under cabinets and refuse to come out for hours at a time, even when I shoved grass, carrots and apple under her nose.

Gaia: 'I'll have those under here with me, thank-you.'

No, you won't; you'll get out here so I can put you back with Minerva, who is wondering where the heck you've gone. 🙄

Minerva's Diary

Day 2 (since she last had a potato) - It has been 8 1/2 months since I was robbed of all my potatoes... The loss is immeasurable... I searched in vain for them again... I know the Slave is hiding them from me, watching as I starve having only eaten a mountain of grass, hay, dandelion flowers, some pellets and a piece of melon....

I left the Slave a solitary poo where my potatoes once were so that the Slave may understand how wronged I have been...

I write this from my Sulking Room (the Carrot Cottage) and hope that one day another pig might find it and send out the word and then we may band together to defeat my wretched Slave and see my potatoes returned to me!

Gaia: '.....I'm right here... If you want me to bite the Slave, you don't even have to ask, I'll just do it.... I don't care if there are potatoes involved or not'
