Hi everyone

What are the best and most effective shampoos for static mites and where to buy them?
Any other advice greatly appreciated 🥰

Thanks in advance
Hollie

Has your vet diagnosed mites? Perhaps speak to them and see what they suggest.

Yep been to the vets and got Ivermectin but I've read that this alone may not shift hay mites!

That’s good.
Hay mites lay the eggs to the hairs of a piggy rather than burrowing into skin, so it can be less effective but it is still the best thing to use.
Shampooing can help, cutting the hair, changing hay, disinfecting and cleaning as well.

Yep its definately mites been to the vets yesterday and have Ivermectin, there's 3 of them 😱
2 are new so it could be stress related, I've read the Ivermectin alone isn't always successful at treating hay mites so just wondered if anyone has any issues/ experience in this?

We have hay boxes delivered so not using cheap bagged hay and I keep them very clean 🤔

Hay mites aren’t a cleanliness issue. They’re annoying but not as big of a problem as mange mites are. Use your ivermectin and throw away any cardboard items
Yes it could be stress related. Mostly the immune system keeps mites in check but stress can lower the immune system and allow them to take off

Ive never had an issue before its definately since having the new girls so they've maybe bought it in and obviously I didn't want to handle them too much at first so perhaps enabled the situation to progress quicker?
I took them to see the vet to be checked over before taking them home too 😩

Gorgeous guineas lice n easy is the gentlest shampoo I've found and what I usually use alongside ivermectin, we recently had an outbreak of lice my vet has never seen and couldn't identify however and the lice n easy didn't shift them at all so I've been using the Johsons insecticidal shampoo and it seems to be doing the trick. What you're looking for is a shampoo with natural pyrethrum, anything with the synthetic version (permethrin) can cause seizures and death if used incorrectly.
