last night he fell asleep in my arms and then started twitching and shaking? and he couldn’t get up, wasn’t responding but he was still breathing. we gave him water & he finally stood up and started walking again. right now he’s eating a bunch and drinking a lot of water? but what was that? why did he do that? what happened?

Nobody can say. Betsy had a seizure a while back and I took her to the vet the next day and they found nothing wrong (after giving her a really good examination) except that she was getting cataracts (unrelated). The explanation I was given was sometimes it just happens and is unexplained. It hasn't happened since. Take your piggie to the vet tomorrow or as soon as you can and explain what happened.

It sounds like a seizure. Please see a vet if it happens again.

Please take him to see a vet.
I hope it will be a one off and nothing further will happen but a seizure is something you need to see a vet for.
I had a piggy who had seizures - it's important to keep a careful eye on him
Please keep us posted

This has just happened to mine! Has your piglet had another since? X

Definitely worth seeing a vet. I had a mouse that used to have seizures... being so tiny, there was not much in the way of meds that the vet could give her. She did live a normal lifespan for a mouse, though, but would occasionally seize and then have a postictal phase where she was rigid, extremely unresponsive (we actually though she was dead a couple of times.) The vet said she likely had epilepsy but as she was so tiny and it was a long time ago, there was nothing much they could do as far as seizure control went. Guinea pigs, being larger, might have more options.
