I checked on my guinea pigs and I noticed one flopped on its side not moving. I at first thought he was dead and freaked out but upon closer inspection I noticed he was still aware, the problem was his legs. He had no control over his hind or front legs and even his head was just flopping around. I panicked and googled as fast as i could but most answers i’ve seen haven’t given me direct instructions on how to help. Rather i’ve only seen constant statements of consulting a vet, however I am unable to consult a vet currently due to financial strain. I’m afraid that once I go to school tomorrow he will starve or become dehydrated since I will not be able to force feed or administer water. Is there anything else I could do for my piggie? ):

Hi- I'm so sorry to hear your piggie isn't doing very well but the advice or statements you have seen about consulting a vet are correct. When a piggie is poorly it is our duty of care as owners to get them help and a medical diagnosis as soon as possible and this is part and parcel of owning an animal. You mention that you are still at school so I would suggest speaking with your parents to arrange a trip to the vet. Nobody can make an attempt at helping your piggie on line because he needs looking at properly to get an accurate diagnosis and the right level of care.

This is probably not the answer you wanted and I'm sure it is worrying for you so I'm sure others will be along to offer practical support, especially if he isn't eating or drinking. It would be helpful if you update your location so that any advice can be tailored.

Really hope your piggie is okay & I wish you all the best.

Hi!

I am very sorry for the quandary you are finding yourself in!

Sadly your piggy is highly likely dying when he is unable to stand and especially if he is unable to lift his head.
He won't die from hunger or dehydration because his body is likely already in the process of closing down; or his next stroke or heart attack may release him from his current suffering.

Please contact a vet as soon as you can. Make sure that you always save up for a pet enough as an integral part of the weekly spending cost for food so that you can take them to be seen asap in an emergency and if necessary receive life saving basic treatment with an antibiotic and painkiller or be put to sleep if they are suffering. Make sure that you have the money either ready in cash at home or accessible on a card in case of an emergency.
Being able to keep them alive and give them a recovery if there is a chance or to keep any suffering as short as possible if there isn't a chance of recovery is one of the most important of the 5 basic animal welfare commitments for any pet owners and one of the most loving and responsible things we can do for any living being in our life.

Sorry you’re in such a quandary. I hope your parents (you mentioned school) got him to a vet. Please do update us.
