Hello, my first post on here!

Sadly one of my piggies passed away last week. My bereaved piggy has just started to perk up a little bit, although not eating as much as she normally does.

I’m trying to find her a friend and I’ve phoned almost every rescue near me but no one has a single sow. She’s only just under a year old although was the dominant piggy so I think she’d get on better with either a baby or a more submissive piggy.

My only options really are to buy from P@H or a smaller pet shop near me. I’m wanting to get a piggy fairly soon as she’s still off her food although I’m worried if I get from P@H then I’ll need to quarantine. Also worried as she was dominant that she won’t get on with a new pig unless we do the dating for her- but doubt P@H will allow this.

Any help would be really appreciated! I’ve done a fair bit of research on bonding as it’s not something I’ve had to do before, I know it’s more likely that she’ll get on with another piggy as she’s a sow, but knowing her she’ll be fussy!

Hi and welcome!

I am very sorry for your loss and sorry that you cannot find a new friend closer to home. Sadly, a good guinea pig rescue near Buddleigh Salterton had to close just a few years ago. :(

Our closest recommended good welfare standard rescue is located in Bristol. Have you contacted them already?
And would you consider rescue dating with a neutered boar? In any happy guinea pig bond, mutual liking and character compatibility comes a long way before age or gender, as long as one party is neutered/spayed in a cross gender pairing.

PS: We do have a Rainbow Bridge section for those members who would like to post a tribute to the piggies they have lost. You are welcome to join if it feels right for you.
