Not interested in veggies

Hes still pretty out of it today, he goes to the hay and shoves his head in it but doesn't eat it, put some forage in it and he takes bits of that so its like hes avoiding hay. Trying his best with veggies, can manage his lettuce but keeps dropping cucumber. Took him back to the vet and they've given him pain relief and gut stimulant injections along with some metacam for me to give him, and to keep syringe feeding him. Here's hoping he picks up

I’m pleased they have given him some pain meds. Hopefully once it’s not hurting so much he will start to eat more 🤞🏻

Do you have a little clean grass you could offer after the syringe feed? Not too much if he’s not used to it though. Fingers crossed he’s soon feeling better 🤞🏻

I dont unfortunately, hes even worse this morning. Doesnt want veggies and lost a further 20g, back to the vet today, I don't know what to do

Oh I’m sorry. Good luck at the vets today. Is he taking the syringe feed ok? How much pain medication is he on?

He is fighting it a lot, he really hates it 😞 the food is going in but it's getting harder each time to manage to get it in. Hes on 0.2 metacam every 24 hours, it hasn't been 24 hours since his last dose (12pm ish) that they gave him through an injection. I'm starting to fear the worst, its really hard not x

That’s quite a low dose of metacam. How much does he weigh? Is it dog strength? I’ve had a 1.2kg piggy on 0.4ml dog strength every 12 hours. This was prescribed by the cat and rabbit vets. Definitely ask your vets about upping the pain meds. It could just be pain stopping him eating. Sending hugs to you and healing vibes to Ozzy. ❤️

He is currently 680g, he has lost so much, he wasn't a heavy piggie to begin with, I think we started at him being around 900g or so. I really hope he is just a little sore, hes becoming terrified of human interaction due to being in and out of the vets and being taken out for the dreaded syringe feeding. Thank you 💓

Ok 0.2ml sounds ok for his weight. Definitely ask the vet if he can have it twice a day though. ❤️

I dont know if I'm a selfish human being or a hopeful one. I took him in and the options were to help him over the rainbow bridge or to try him on fluids and syringing under their care because hes fighting so hard. She brought out the euthanasia form and I couldn't bring myself to do it without trying the fluids and syringing first. I don't know the right decision, I just don't want to make one that I cant take back 😭

I'm so sorry 💜 I know how long this day is for you. I'm holding you and your little boy in my thoughts today, and I hope he will come home in a better shape. Either way, you have really given him every chance and so much love.

Oh I’m so sorry. You’re giving him an extra chance. I hope he’s well enough to take it. If the rainbow bridge is calling then at least you know you’ve done absolutely everything you could do. ❤️

0.2ml once a day is very low dosage. It should be 2x a day. Ellie usually prescribes a higher dose of metacam 2x a day.

Fingers crossed 🤞🤞 Ozzy shows an improvement soon. ❤️❤️

I think I would have made the same decision as he was only on pain relief once a day. I hope he improves soon. I wonder if it's worth trying a different syringe food. I remember battling post op piggies who wouldn't eat, trying something different and they've gone for it straight away. Maybe try some of his usual pellets mushed up sometimes a familiar taste will help. The pellets don't have all the added nutritional extras but at this stage you just need him to eat. You can then gradually add a bit of the recovery food to the mix and slowly change the taste.

Thank you, I'll look into another food and mushed pellets. There has to be something he will take to x

What we usually do is blend carrots and put it in syringe so we can syringe it alongside the CC, alternately at times. My past piggies usually take the carrots very well. We also alternate giving Oxbow CC, mushed pellets, or Emeraid Sustain for herbivores. I know it's going to be quite tedious doing it like that but it has worked for us.

I don't mind it being tedious as long as it goes in, I'll pick some carrots up and some alternative food as others and you have said. I have called for an update and they said they're quite hopeful now as he's happily taking the syringe food from them and perked up a little. Not out of the woods yet but they're using the words 'when you take him home' rather than a euthanasia form xx

I've only just caught up on this thread and am so sorry you have both been through so much anguish. Sending positive vibes x

Thank you so much, its been a lot of pain that I couldn't have ever imagined would happen, I'm so grateful for the forum, even when I take a bit of time away, people are always so welcoming and comforting x

Just wanting to ask, how long can I syringe feed for in terms of days and maybe weeks? Before it would be too much for him, because the thing is, that he's trying for the hay but for some reason just can't get it, seen him pick up small pieces but it's not enough
