So the latest development in Weasley is a strange one. He seems to have balanced out in terms of poop consistencey, they are mostly a decent size (still a few small ones), a nice deep brown/black and mostly round with only a few with slightly pointy ends.

The issue is timing. He doesn't drop more than half a dozen poops overnight whilst I'm asleep (about 6 hours), and then will continue only dropping one or two an hour for most of the day. But then between around about 4pm and 10pm he will become like one of those christmas reindeer toys and just drop them every few minutes nearly non-stop.

This is the first time he's been on his own as an adult and has been ill the entire time so I've no idea if this is normal behaviour or not? Could it just be his meds having side effects due to prolonged use? He gets Septrin, Zantax and Emeprid around 7am/7pm and then 0.2ml Meloxaid at 10pm. The pooping usually seems to stop about an hour after the Meloxaid, but I also usually give his veg (a very small amount of pepper and cucumber for water/vit c as the vet reccommended) around this time. He has a vet appointment tomorrow, I was just curious as to if this is normal pooping behaviour or not.

Thanks all :)

I don't really know to be fair of it could be the medication having effects on his bowel movements. I would ask the vet to be on the safe side. Some days my piggy will poo less but others he'll poo nonstop so it could just be your piggies rhythm. Hope the vet visit goes well and has he always been alone? Or lost a friend because if so he might be pining for his mate

He lost a mate just before xmas and has been having issues with bloat and urine infections ever since, I think he's now also developing a fungal infection as he's been scratching and scabbing up his chin. Vet has reccomended getting another but want to make sure he's totally right before bringing in a new pig, and hoping to get one of a similar age rather than a young one so I don't get stuck in a piggy loop. Have been to visit sspca locally but they only have very young ones in at the moment so will wait and see how Wednesday goes and work from there.

You need to get another one, regards the others health. Some of it may be stress. You cannot leave it. Your other piggy is suffering all the while he doesn't have a mate. Eiether a young piggy is better than none. Please do it ASAP

Guinea pigs don't poop regularly throughout the day; they eat and sleep, and that pattern is reflected in the output. During the quiet times they will produce the redigested caecotroph poos that they rely on to process their fibrous food.

It can well be that all the meds are influencing the gut activity. As long as there is no bloating, a stable weight and a reasonable amount of normal looking poos indicating that enough food is being processed, I would not worry too much.

Would the rescue let you foster a young one that they could then home when the time came? If you could bear that. Not sure that I could mind you.

Thanks @Wiebke , he still has some minor bloating that won't shift but nothing the vet is concerned with as she thinks this is just him adjusting to being less active on his own, and his weigh fluctuates between 1.32kg and 1.34kg depending on the time of day but again vet says this is to be expected based on exercise and food intake etc.

The majority of his poos are normal, there are still the occasional small or soft ones but nothing as close to as bad as they've been, they've just started to come in a large burst but if that's just due to hisnnew eating habbits and everything else seems fine I won't worry too much :)

I asked about that @flowerfairy and they said no, it's an all in or nothing sadly :/ I did see some very cute little ones when I was there but Weasley is a very subdued 3 1/2 year old and even Potter who was only 6 months younger seemed to get on his nerves a bit when hyper so I'm weighing up the stress of solo piggyness vs stress of new very young piggy. I've been keeping an eye on the website and the one a few towns over has a 3 year old in just now so I'll try and pop over there at the weekend if the vet confirms Weasley is non-contagious and still needs a chum. I'm also a little concerned to see how he does off the meds aswell as he's been on them so long I feel like they may be masking something underlying but I'm probably just being paranoid.
