Oh No, Lump?

Thanks guys :) So things are going alright, the other pigs are acting like nothing's happened which I guess is a good thing!

She's quite wet around her bottom area though, I'm guessing she's been sitting in her wee or something which obviously isn't great. The vets called to see how she's doing and said to check the wound and pop in this evening if there's any concerns which is good. I might see if upping her metacam will help as she's on quite a low dose compared to the doses we've had before. Going to check her over when I get home from work and give them a call :)

She's just feeling rather sorry for herself bless her!
 
I think feeling sorry for herself after the operation is common. It usually gets better after the 3rd day based on my experience. As long as she eats (with or without your help), you shouldn't really be too concerned.

Here's hoping for her speedy recovery! :luv:

She's eating pretty well and I'm also offering recovery food as a top up, which she isn't too interested in and would rather hay which is fab.

Only thing I'm concerned about is her back end, it's weird the way it's wet all up her bum? I'll get her out when I get home and check her over, if she lets me of course! Even now she's a feisty little madam :roll:

She up an moving around okay? Sitting for long periods of time could indicate pain. Which would be normal after the op and may explain the wet bottom

Thanks Lee, yes I'm thinking she needs more metacam so I'll be calling the vet when I get home and check how she is.

She's moving around but not as much as normal, apparently she's not as wet as she was which is good.

She's only on 0.13ml per day which seems awfully low to me. I'm going to see how much I can increase it by. I'm pretty sure Iggy was on 0.3ml per day and that's when he was 600 odd grams and Cissy is about a 1- 1.1k. I didn't want to up the dosage myself as she's on other meds and didn't know if it would cause problems?

Sounds like pain to me and yes that is on the lower end of dose after a big operation, metacam is well tolerated normally and dosing higher in certain circumstances for a short period of time is often done by vets these days, so I would speak to the vet to help her with pain relief. Cissy is a good weight too. Sending lots of healing vibes and love, a hug to you too x

Unfortunately the vet who was in (idk who) has said not to increase her metacam and if things aren't better in the morning to come in for a stronger injectable pain relief which I don't want to put her through.

I'm thinking I might increase it anyway, I know it's not recommended but I just wanted to check that it wouldn't interfere with her other meds. Ranitine 0.33ml and co-trimoxazole 0.32ml. I'm thinking 0.15mls twice per day so 0.3ml in total to try?

@Wiebke know if that would be alright?

Yes I was warned about the swelling thankfully, or else I'd be worrying like mad! :))

She didn't seem unduly worried when I touched it lightly.

Drom has just been cleaning Cissy, bless her! The Heart Of Darkness has always loved Cissy but this just melted my heart :wub: She was cleaning her back end too, now that's true love!

Aww that is so sweet! Drom clearly relises that Cissy can't manage to keep herself clean atm so is doing it for her.:D

I know right? It's adorable, Drom isn't exactly the affectionate type but she's always had a soft spot for Cissy ever since she was a youngun. My pigs aren't that affectionate in general actually but it's nice to see they support each other when they're poorly :) Bella has been guarding her and Iggy has left her alone and hasn't bugged her once!

She's doing a better after the increase of metacam :) Still a bit wet on her bottom but less so. We have our check up at the vets tomorrow, I probably won't mention I upped her pain relief anyway :whistle:

Can't wait for pay day then I can get her some more readigrass, she's got the oat grass which is getting her moving more. That girl is motivated well with food :))

I've noticed the 5 pigs are leaving veg after their nightly feed for the first time in their lives which is a bit odd though?

Yes I'm still a bit worried, with Tonks still needing her removal soon and test results waiting and such but I'm relieved that Cissy is becoming more like herself, fighting the meds and kicking piggies out of the treat area :))

We've just had our check up, wound is looking perfect so that's all good.

We've also had our results in with the test, as suspected it was a mammary tumour but now that it's removed we shouldn't have any problems as the affected tissue is completely gone. So good result :yahoo:

Cissy must be feeling better as she was biting me to pieces whilst doing her meds this morning :))
