Oscar is losing weight...

i know, thats what worries me. Last time i had a dental piggy he was really wet under his chin and he used to bite his food but couldnt eat it so there were bits of it on the floor.

The vet did actually thing oscars chin was wet but i think it was because hed had a little cucumber before we went. I think i would have noticed before if it was wet.

I'm just so unsure about the g/a, i dont want him to have it...

I think you're right not to rush straight to GA, I'd continue to monitor his weight closely. He may pick up his eating again by himself.

As already pointed out, it's not a huge loss; could it be that there's not anything wrong with him at all? ?/

Is there an exotics specialist near you who could maybe take a look without GA?

Thank you Amanda, that makes me feel heaps better.

I dont know if there are any experts local to me, the only one i have ever heard of is Simon.

He is so normal in every way, and we all go off food sometimes and feel a bit off, but at the same time I'm scared stiff i have missed something and he will deteriorate.

I think Friday is acceptable though.

:{

Hope Oscar starts eating his veggies soon. It's good that he's tucking into the hay though.
Moonpig's become VERY fussy about her fresh food in her old age but is always scoffing hay when she's awake.
Hope you get to the bottom of it a.s.a.p. x

Just seen this :(
awww dam i do wish whee could speak 'piggie language' SIGH.........
I think you did the right thing tho.......us parents just know somethings not right sometimes!
Monitor his weight morning and night.
I find seasons with veggies can make them not want something in particular...maybe that? Melon of course cause it's nice and soft and oh soooo sweet drool would be a fav bless him!

You're doing brilliantly love xx>>>

COME ON OSCAR DON"T WORRY YOUR MUMMY XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

When i left him last night he was happily munching hay, when i went in this morning he came running up for brekkie :(|)

I weighed him this morning and he hasnt lost any,he stayed the same so will weigh again tonight.

cmon my boy xxxxx

That's a reason to smile. :)
C'mon Oscar! :laluot_29::laluot_29::laluot_29:

His weight remaining constant is a good thing! well done little Oscar.

Could they look at his back teeth with a whiff of gas as opposed to a full GA? If you do go down that route maybe it's worth asking. But hopefully you won't need to.

Fingers crossed for Oscar x

Vedra (CCT) is one other person that can have a look at back teeth without GA she looked at my bubbles yesterday!x

One of my pigs started to lose weight a while ago and the problem turned out to be worms. (easily cured). Suggest you contact Laura at guineapighelpline.com. Laura was trained by Vedra and has given me some very helpful advice

If he will eat banana hun try him on this as it has lots of calories so good for building up weight, you could even make him a banana and oat mash?

Just seen this tread hon sorry. I started reading thinking it was maybe just a minor blip, until the last page.

First off - There is only 1 dental vet for me and that's Simon. The mans a blooming genius.

Secondly - 35g loss overnight is worrying. is there any chance you could video him eating something, so we could try and see if he's having any difficulties?

What did they say about his dewlap (under his chin)?

Karina, have a chat with Debbie about Oscar. Also, perhaps be worthwhile trying to get a video of his eating various different veg.

Try and speak to your vet about using gas instead of a full ga for them to look at his teeth and maybe see if your vet is willing to have a chat with Simon Maddock.

Hi and thanks. They checked his heart and said it sounded ok.

The 35g was from this morning to when i came home from work, but i cant remember now if i weighed him before or after brekkie, i will keep weighing him morning and night.

I have done a vid of him eating his hay and its definately all going in and to me just looks natural and fine, hes eating on both sides and doesnt appear to be struggling.

Ill just upload it. Thanks for the interest everyone.

Two people have suggested oral thrush i think it was, but i cant smell anything in or around his mouth.

Chloe, he wont eat nanas.

Did they say what g/a they are going to use?

I guess until the vet takes a proper look, there's no point trying to play guessing games.

Something to try him on is veggie baby food. He might eat that just out of a bowl. Either that or try syringing some to him.

Also, try giving him some porridge oats, they will give him some extra calories.

The problem is, i really do not think its his teeth. I have just taken a vid of him eating some hay and another eating some veggies, it looks completely normal to me.

And no, they didnt say which they use. I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm dissing the vet, I'm really not, she was great i just think she wants to do this because she couldnt see in his mouth.

Yeah, it may very well be something else, just have to wait and see.

Healing vibes for Oscar xx

Got a great vid of him eating veggies and hay but cant upload them grrrrr

anyone know how to upload a vid from facebook?

thank you x

If you have a photobucket account, you can import vids from FAcebook into the PB account....then from there post them on here in the normal way x

Hi Love just checking in on Oscar....... dam sorry to hear he lost weight!

Look if it reassures you a teeny bit Onyx's weight dips always thru the day, after her morning feed (a little bit of CC with crushed pellets, tiny bit of leafies and small veg) she'll be around the 1120-1130 then when i get home she has dipped anywhere from 20-30g each day, i used to freak but it's a pattern that she's formed, i think it's to do with the syringe feeding...once she's not on that i'm hoping she'll hold her weight more. Just hoping this might help a little bit XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

DARLING OSCAR WHEE ARE SENDING YOU LOADS OF GIRLIE KISSES AND LITTLE LOVES FROM ME XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
