Junior Guinea Pig
Hi everyone,
One of my girls has large ovarian cysts (5cm each side) when diagnosed. That was about a year ago now that I found out and she has been completely fine until now. I noticed that she had been crying when peeing so I took her to the vet. I brought a urine sample to check for a UTI (side note - that was the most difficult thing I’ve had to do lol). The vet ruled out stones and any uterine issues - but confirmed a UTI. The vet said that her urine was very diluted which could be caused by me force feeding her water to get the urine sample, or her kidneys are being squished by the cysts and starting to fail. She’s on chlorpalm for 10 days and we are 7 days in and I’m not seeing any improvement - she is still crying.
I thought it may also be the crystals (sludge) in her pee that’s causing her irritation but I have cut calcium out everywhere that I possibly could. They even get special reverse osmosis water.
Other than her crying when peeing she is such a happy girl and her eating and drinking habits are normal. It’s just so hard to know when the time to put her to sleep is because I obviously don’t want her to suffer.
I am just wondering if anyone has had a Guinea pig with large ovarian cysts that caused pain when peeing? Or if this may be just a bad UTI. From what I’ve researched I haven’t gotten a clear answer on whether the cysts can cause pain when peeing or not.
Thanks in advance!
