Didn't want to hijack @Eddie & Elvis's thread so thought I'd better make my own. Patsy has sore feet. This is what they look like

When I saw the vet (on an unrelated matter a couple of weeks ago) I was told it might be the bedding in the hutch so I have been changing it twice a week instead of once a week as it may have been damp. I have been doing the same in the run too. My piggies are on fleece in both. Today I sent these images through to the vet as Patsy's feet aren't getting any better. The message came through tonight that I should get rid of any soiled bedding every day (I do anyway) and "that it is strongly suggested" that I give Patsy's feet "a salt water bathing every day". This is all very good but they didn't tell me if ordinary salt was OK or what strength the salt water bath should be which isn't very helpful. Do I put a bit of water in a tupperware and add a bit of salt to it and stand Patsy in the Tupperware? Any help would be apppreciated. @Bradshaw Piggies how did you do Odin's feet please?

So sorry your having problems with her feet. The pics look similar to Odin’s as his had started to clear up. So I think you’ve caught this in plenty of time before sores develop. His came from being in hospital, when they left him sat in urine 😡😥😥 and were a lot worse, at open sore stage
Odin’s foot routine:

twice a day:
1) I would mix a tablespoon of Epsom salts (purchased from my local chemist) into warm water and stand his back feet in it. In a Tupperware dish. At first I had to hold him in there for a few minutes, but then he became accustomed to just sitting with his back feet in there (a low sided Tupperware tub).soak For at least 5 minutes if you can.

2) I would then dip his feet in fresh warm water and wipe dry. Wiping away any salt from his feet, legs and surrounding hair (I didn’t want him to bathe himself and be ingesting any)

3) Apply aloe Vera gel (pure - from Boots), and then have him sat on a towel with me whilst it soaked in a bit.

4) I would apply the F10 barrier cream, leave it on a few mins on the towel and then return him to his cage.

Throughout the day, I would regularly take him out, wipe his feet with baby wipes and apply some more F10 cream. But he had his foot soaks and treatments twice a day (am and pm). He was on bath mats and fleece for bedding but I added vet bed in any areas that he liked to sit or sleep (more absorbent for protecting his feet).

when his feet were are their worst stage, I found Flamazine to be the most successful treatment for clearing up the sores.

it was a lot of work, as was all of his other treatments. But his feet were perfect in the end, despite two vets saying his feet were incurable. It just takes some dedication 😊nothing was too much trouble for me, anything for my boy 💕

hope that helps you out

Caspy gets this. He drinks a lot and his beds get soaked, he has fleece hides with fleece pee pads. I now use vet bed squares in his beds with a thick layer of newspaper underneath. I change the vet bed and newspaper daily sometimes twice depending how wet it feels. I bathe his feet twice a day when they are sore with a warm saline solution, I don't soak them I just wash them with a cotton wool pad and dry with another pad. The vet did say to soak if the skin was broken, luckily I've managed to catch it each time before the skin breaks. I rub in some gg perfect paws cream if the skin looks a bit dry but it's better to let the skin harden off rather than soften it with cream if you can.
I hope Patsy's feet get better soon.

Poor Patsy.

great practical advice above about bathing in salts and using F10 barrier ointment - that is good stuff.

I would also recommend using vet bed in her houses/most favourite places to hang out as it drains all moisture away from the surface and remains dry to the touch. Angel (my neurological foster piggy) had sore hocks and feet from the way she walked and sat and using vet bed helped her tremendously.

:agr: Odin had thick vet bed wherever he tended to sit or sleep

Popped Patsy in a warm salt bath this morning. I think she enjoyed it. She sat there for 3 minutes before she'd had enough. Then she went into the plain water bath for about 2 minutes and I wiped her tum with a damp cloth to try and get rid of all the salt before rubbing her dry with a nice thick towel. The barrier cream went on next and after a cuddle she went in the run for the day. She doesn't really have a favourite place apart from the snugglesafes. The fleece on these are changed every day. Patsy is a cruiser and just goes anywhere she wants to despite her age she is very lively.

Glad she enjoyed it. Odin used to love it. I called it his Spa time 😂💕💕

Aw bless her, hope beautiful Patsy’s feet feel better soon.

Wish Aliona was as well behaved with her pampering a little while ago, GG’s Super Soufflé cream on her sore nipples and she tried to bite me the naughty lady! :yikes: First time ever! Don’t know if it hurt (I was gentle!) or if it’s just the raging hormones, she’s an angry bird atm! :gd:XD

Aww patsey I hope your feeties get better soon! Atleast you can have some spa time in the meantime! ❤️

When Betsy had ovarian cysts she was even more of a moody cow than she is normally and gave poor Dennis (RIP:love:) hell but because he loved her so much he just put up with it.

I’m hoping Luigi’s as nice as gorgeous Dennis and doesn’t retaliate then! He beat up his last (boar) cagemate obviously so I’m a bit on edge! Hoping she’ll be nice enough in between (or he’s scared enough) that there’s no big squabbles! 🤞 :)) And hopefully no bites for me, Cleo’s being quite nice atm so thought I’d be safe! :))

Patsy had her Spa treatment this morning.

Everything ready. Salt water, plain water, warm fluffy towel and warm damp cloth to wipe of any salt that remains on tummy and legs.

Dear Patsy, we hope you enjoyed your spa. You look so calm and content there.
We hope that means there were some bribes or treats on offer.
If not then we suggest you put lots and lots and lots of poops in the water next time.
We hope your feet are better soon.
Love from Priscilla, Phoebe and Micah x
