Strange skin condition on pig's hind end. Loss of hair, it feels a bit hard. It dosen't seem to bother him though, no biting or scratching. He otherwise seems like a perfectly fine piggy. He eats fine, his energy level is normal, he poops fine. His brother pig doesn't seem to be interested in it either, not like we ever witnessed him chewing or sniffing at it or anythign. But it's grown a bit bigger as far as I can tell from a couple weeks ago.

Anyone have any idea what this is? I first thought it was a small scab when I saw it a few weeks ago, but it's only gotten bigger since.

I hate to go to the vet again, it's like a 45-50 minute drive. If there is anything I can try before taking my piggy there, I'd be glad to give it a go.

I didn't see a way to edit post, so I'll put it here. That's first photo is what it looks like when I pull the hair back. It doesn't look so bad normally because hair is covering it like here:

maybe its his grease gland.it may need cleaning, but anything untoward i would maybe get a vet to check it out.i hope someone can link the guide to gease glands and boar bits !

Thanks. We will try to give it a clean as suggested. I did send the image to our vet to see what they say.

I also found this which looks exactly like what our guinea pig's looks like, and they mentioned it was grease gland too: Log in to Facebook

It’s definitely the grease gland. Does it look sore or just dirty and greasy? They can get infected. If it looks sore a vet trip is necessary. You can clean it with coconut oil. You can get this from the supermarket.

I agree with the others - this is definitely a very dirty grease gland. You can try to clean it with coconut oil (from the food section of the supermarket) but also have a vet check it in case of infection

I just wanted to follow up and say that it does looks like it was that grease gland. Thanks.

That coconut oil made a mess of his fur and he absolutely detests the bath, but cleaned it up as best I can. I don't see any remnants of there. We noticed a little bit on our other guy, and cleaned him up too. I guess they may need a bath every couple months to keep it clean.

Really looks like an overly active or irritated grease gland... it's certainly in the right spot for it!
