Hi there! My guinea pig is home from the hospital on critical care. She's finally eating hay! I'm so happy she is eating hay but she has still shown absolutely no interest in her water bottle. Is there anything I can do? I know she is getting some water from the critical care that I'm syringe feeding every 6hrs. Do you think that's why she isn't thirsty? She sure is munching on hay inbetween feedings.

Hi

The need to drink comes before the need to eat. You can offer your piggy water from a syringe in between feeds but only as much as she wants do take voluntarily. The need for fluid does get bigger if the fluid intake is covered by a different source.

All the best for a good recovery.

If she is eating hay and maintaining her weight, I wouldn’t worry about her not drinking as she’s probably getting enough water from the critical care. Is she eating veg?
She is starting to nibble a tiny bit on the water bottle! We are showing progress :) I haven't offered any veggies, I figured I would wait until we see the vet on Tuesday
