I'm really thrilled to see that Boris seems to be coping well with his splint :)
ahhhh bless the little guy xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>
Just wondering how's he eating? is he eating his hay, pellets and drinking water?
Do you think that maybe Boris could at least have some visits from his little mates? even a chat beside each other in different cages?
as for cost? rofl i can't say anything i spent a small fortune on our boy...and yeah like you i'd do it again.
Sending more healing wheeeeeeks for the little guy xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

Bless him in his splint! How is he coping with it? Is he managing to do everything he should? Do keep us updated with how he is doing! ?/?/

Have you put his friends in with him briefly so they can catch up? Or can he see them? That's the things with piggies, they love company especially their friends. :)):))

As for comments about money - ignore them. It's hard, but not worth paying attention to. I had a baby pig who had surgery at 3 months costing £100. Over his lifetime I spent literally hundreds of pounds he was worth every single penny. Oh, and he lived for nearly 7 years! I had so much joy from him & still miss him terribly. As someone said earlier, you can't put a price on love. x)x)

so pleased to hear he is getting on well.

healing vibes being sent for the lovely Borisx)

How is Boris doing today? I hope the Metacam is helping him, theroretically it should make a big difference to his condition and recovery, and with any luck ease any pain to help him start to eat hard foods again.

Oh bless him in that splint! huge hugs and well wishes for Boris, I hope he has a fast recovery and gets back to his old self soon :)

Boris Update

Hi everyone sorry i havent been online have had a big 2 days Boris has now appeared on tv,radio and newspaper so we have been so busy and on top of that Boris just got back from the vet again.the reason being one leg had slight movement but the other was completly limp and cold so we thought that his circulation had been cut off and were worried about amputation so i got my vet to ring brendan like Glynis said but he wasnt at clinic but got through to another vet from there and he told us to ring on monday. My vet was concerned that maybe Boris has a blood clot but he doesnt know enough about guinea pigs to say for sure hence the reason we are getting in touch with brendan but my OH just went in to massage Boris leg to encourage blood flow and success he staryted moving it a little and some warmth had come back to it so hopefully these are good signs but just want to ask if anyone has any advice as to why Boris's leg went cold and limp?

Famous piggie! We are privileged to be helping with his health troubles on this forum. :))

Since so much is normally tied in with the spine, I would be inclined to consider the possiblity that the splint has held the vertebrae in a position which has slightly trapped something. I don't know enough about guinea pig anatomy to sure for sure if it is likely to be the case or not, plus I'm not a vet and obviously I've not seen the pig for myself, but it seems something may have become trapped somewhere along the line and is affecting the blood flow to that leg.

Does he tend to lay on a particular side? Does he still potter about a little bit? Safe heatpads and massages are perhaps the easiest and 'safest' way to improve blood flow. I don't recommend a massage pad in this situation, only localised manual massage, due to his condition.

How is the famous Boris doing? I hope fame isn't going to his head?! :)p:)p:)p

How is his leg? Is it better at all? Maybe if you can't get a heat pad you could try a hot water bottle & keep it covered with blankets so it only feels warm to Boris rather than hot? If you use a hot water bottle the whole of him could probably lie on it & keep him very snug! But do check the temperature and make sure it isn't too hot or he will burn.

Healing hugs & squeaks from my boysxx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

Latecomer here - is there any collection for Boris in this country?

Good luck to him! He's so sweet!

Thanks for the link Laura.

The cold leg could be down to a circulation problem as he's not able to move around. Also like Laura said it could also be because he might be lying on it. I had the same problem when my sow lost the use of her back legs. I used a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel. Gentle massage could help :)

hi with th donations we havent gone outside of our community not sure how to lol the massage seems to be helping his legs seem to be able to move better today. Will try a heat pad if i can find one if not a water bottle sounds good how long should i leave him one heatpad or water bottle and will he try to chew them?

Here (below) is a link for the snugglesafes in Australia, don't know if it's any help to you. Yes, he might chew on a normal hot water bottle, but these snugglesafes are brilliant, and safe. They have a fleecy cover (otherwise the item would probably be too warm), but they retain the heat for about 8 hours, which is so useful. I used one all winter (in fact I had two, which I alternated) for my semi feral cat outside.

Good luck with little Boris.

hi thanx fo the advice i will check it out although i found out about a place called pets are us thats only a 10min drive from me so i might go there i heard they have heatpads will keep you updated

WOW Boris is a 'celeb' awwwwwwwwww good on him, let's hope that helps him knowing so many people want him to get better x)
Sorry not been on just a few hiccups here mallethead
I would've suggested the hot water bottle but i see Sue has found a wonderful link xoxo

re my vets...If Brendan is not there it will be Jacinta and i know she's been training in exotics as well!

I hope that the little man's feeling of his leg comes back real soon xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>
There's one thing i must warn you tho.....if using any heat pads or water bottle make sure they can get away from the heat if the have had enough sometimes piggies tend to just lay about and if they get over heated it's not good :{
More healing wheeeeeeeeks for the little guy xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

hi good to hear from you Glynis yes Boris is famous everywhere i go people keep on asking me about him so its good that they care and also wanted to raise some awareness that piggys are worth the effort to many people seem to forget about all our small friends, and like i said to my OH its fantastic they love Boris but thats because they have heard his story what about so many other piggys that are going through things just as bad i just hope that some of the non animal lovers open there eyes a little and stop being so cold towards guineas/rabbits/rats/mice fingers crossed
On the other front Boris is much happier sice he has his friends close by and his massages he thinks its fantastic and because he is so restricted in movement he has really started to bond with me so much more he appreciates his pats and looks at me if i call his name so i think he ill get through this just fine if not people have given me plenty of options one is the bondi vet apparently he answers all emails and is a real animal lover so thats something i could try if i have to but lets just see what the vet thinks on tuesday thats his first proper check up xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:)

It's good to hear that you & Boris are having some good bonding time after the horrible accident! Some good guinea loving really help the world go round! x):))@)

Sending lots of hugs and healing vibes to Boris! x>>

He looks so vulnerable in that splint ... hope all goes well for him!

I didn't have any problems with Ginger trying to chew the bottle. Just make sure it's completely covered with a towel. Maybe leave Boris on for a short while and see how he responds and if he's comfortable, then maybe extend the time. Hope Boris is doing well today :)

Wierd problem

hi just picked up Boris and this is yukky but he had what looked like a poo coming out of what i think is his penis except that it was like a clear milky colour and was solid like a poo I'm a bit worried by this can anyone shed some light?:{

Normal male behaviour, that is ejaculate which has solidified. Usually cone shaped, around 2-3cm in length.

ewww lol i was worried the thought of that crossed my mind could this have anything to do with the fact that he was used for breeding before i got him just not sure thats all and how often will that happen

awwww yup so normal, not sure about how often they do it, but before when i had our boys on hay i'd not see 'it' but when i only had one boy (our Dukey) on towels i'd find it often, and then had to pick it off the towel :p it's like a sticky glue, just wipe gently with a warm damp cloth it should come off.
Bless him x)x) at least you know he's still having 'piggie dreams' :(|)

Boys will be boys! Each pig is different about how often it happens. Mine periodically take turns in mounting each other & doing their thing! Poor Jerry is usually the recipient of all things gunky! I still love them all & as Glynis says - at least he is having boy piggy dreams! He must be a very happy boy! :)):)):)):))

I often find it on my boars face where the other boar has had his wicked way on his head-poor things :))
