I can't count the number of times I have had to trim poor Jerry's fur so he has ended up with bald patches! :{

They do have their 'less favourable' sides, but their love, smiles & cuddles more than make up for it! They must, otherwise we wouldn't be addicted to them like we are! x)xx>>>

hi everyone i have had one of the worst days first i went to the vets to pick up my donation tins for Boris and these people said oh after you brought the tin in i was told we couldnt have them up but not only did they take our tins down they went as far as ripping my beautiful pictures of Boris off them :(then i went to the vet checkup with Boris only to realise that the vet that i thought was ok knows nothing about pigs and he told me to stop massaging Boris's legs even though Boris has had more movement since i started doing so.He also said that he doesnt really need pain med. Then to top the day off i went to the park and saw a couple with a 6-8 week old staffy pup,and the pup wandered off so the guy walked up to it picked it up by its throat and then threw it to the ground the same thing happened a short time later except this time his gf hit it over the head.I was so angry i wanted to go do that to them but instead my OH called the rspca and they said they didnt cover that area so we called the police who said unless they witnessed it they couldnt do a thing sorry about the mong post but i am absolutly disgusted, shocked and i am starting to think where are the people that care about animals i dont know what to do i feel so helpless for that poor puppy8...

I'm so sorry you had a rotten day. How mean to off your vets - removing the tin and telling you to stop pain meds and massaging. You as the owner know what is best for your piggie so if they are working for him, then I personally wouls continue. It's horrible to see people mistreating their animals and I've tried to report mistreated animals to the police and rspca before, and no one has wanted to know. It makes my blood boil. Hope Boris is having a good day today :)

I'm sorry you had such an awful day. I agree that your vet is out of line to say Boris doesn't need pain relief and to stop the massage. Was this not the vet who said he wouldn't eat hard food because of pain? Guinea pigs feel pain as much as any other animal - if it was a dog or cat with their spine in a splint, I am quite sure they would not deny pain relief then! Great news that the massage is helping, keep up the good work with him.

The only other thing I can really advise at the moment is to find a second vet if you can, even if just for a one-off visit to get a second opinion. Easier said than done I know, but maybe worth a try since you are not happy with your current vet now.

hi thanx for the replys i called the police about 90mins after i first reported it and the apparently they hadnt even gone to see these people and it was only a 10 min drive they said they would go later more animal abusers that are now getting away with it grrrr. On the other front yes this is the same vet that said to give boris grated food and i have decided to do what i think is right i trust all of you on this forum more than my own vet.Borrie has benefited far more from the advice on here compared to the vet i will start the hunt for a new one tomorrow and i went to more places that i left tins and found that most people defaced them, took them down, hid them behind the counter or threw them out so i will not be giving these places my business again i found alternative stores today that actually care for animals i just feel like I'm losing faith in everyone right now its sad but i thought people were a little more caring big thanx to everyone on here you are all life savers xoxoxoxoxoxo

we had a woman come into my work in tears the other week with a picture of a lost beagle puppy
we all asked my manager if we could put it up in the window, when she was gone he ripped it up and threw it in the bin
people love acting like animals are worthless, it's sickening

but don't give up <3

hi thankyou i am feeling a bit more optimistic now (had a rare bad moment before) i wont give up until people start listening i guess some of us will spend our lives try to make others care right.that is so sad about the beagle pup did they end up finding her?

i don't think so =[ i saw another poster up in the town centre about a week later
was heartbreaking, she was only a puppy, apparently she just ran out of the house and the woman thought someone had snatched her due to her being purebred

i will do if she comes in again, i try to look out for her so i can ask her about it =]
how's boris doing?

How's the boy going love, i just read what you said re the vets and non massage, don't get me started as i might get myself into trouble :x..........you keep it up you know it's the right thing, that's why you've been all over the world doing research xx>>>
COME ON BORIS xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

re that incident in the park? happens all the time, most pet owners shouldn't be one....i wish they'd 'vet' people more before just giving them precious little ones............grrrrrrr

hi Boris is doing well just gave him some more cucumber as the only water he is getting is through his food he hasnt had a drop of actual water in a week now the vet didnt seem to worried by it though rolleyes
oh and i am still keeping up the massage and metacam i will trust my gut instinct with this i think

he looks quite bright eyed and alert, from what i can see =]
he's a beautiful little boy <3

what a lovely looking pig.
All the support from MrsM and the gang...xoxoxoxoxoxo

Thanks for the new piccie! He looks so handsome! x) (Don't let my boars hear about that or jealously might be very present in my home!)

The thing to remember is, as someone said earlier, you know your animal better than a vet or anyone else. My vets are great as they will often ask my opinion about certain aspects of their treatment, to make sure I am happy & that it ias what I want to do. I think this is important. -c

I think you are doing the right thing about continuing the massage. Even if it wasn't improving his mobility, it is a great bonding time for you & him, and as he can't have his back stroked at the present time a leg will do! xx>>> As for stopping pain killers - rubbish! Poor little man must be in some pain, especially as on top of the fracture his little body is set in a cast & he can't move. Poor little love x

My boys are sending manly hugs & squeaks to Boris today. They say tell him to be strong & manly but enjoy being a mummy's pig while he can!

Love

Michele
xx

Boris is gorgeous, continuing to watch this thread, hope it all works out for the little guy, he deserves it. xx

don't panic
chances are he's just got a bit of a scrape, it happens when pigs bumble about.
check and see if it's causing him any discomfort. if you feel really worried maybe bathe it with some diluted salt water.
he might have just bumped it when he fell but i'd be surprised if a surface wound is anything to do with his fracture.
if he's in any pain from it or if it gets worse take him straight to the vet. otherwise try not to worry, i know it's hard when they're not well anyway and it seems like anything could be an addition to their ailment, but stay strong <3

hi boris had his fall a week and 1/2 ago and the hair loss only showed up this morning also the scab is so small its barely noticable so I'm not sure if it was a direct injury that made it happen

I'm sorry for the fright!

But as long as it looks like a healed scratch and there isn't any sign of swelling or inflammation you shouldn't be worried. The hair should grow back soon.

He might have got that scratch even before he had his accident.

How are his legs doing otherwise?

his legs are fantastic he gave me a kick today first time i can actually say i wanted to be kicked:))oh and his hair loss is a circle shape and just appeared i might just settle on it being stress from his injurys thanx

I bet he's scraped himself whilst manouvering around in his cage awww x)
They do worry us don't they. I agree keep an eye on it, bathe it gently.
Oh Boris boy you are such courageous boy xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

you're only up the road a pity i'm not going that way this weekend i would so love to meet this little trooper xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>
