Poorly Baby Pig

The nebuliser was the turning point for Ziggy, I was reticent but it really worked wonders and she sits and munches in it.

Thank you. It's good to hear that. She's so close now, she just won't stop sneezing. but Celine has suggested that this could be down to fungal spores being the root of the URI, so she hopes this will put paid to it.

Sending healing vibes to your poorly pig and hugs to you!:hug::hug:You have both been through so much!

The one thing I am clinging to is she's had a spike in weight gain. Her appetite is towering at the moment. So I feel like she's in the best condition I can get her in to prep her for something that may effect her gut.

but. I have no annual leave left. So if she stops eating I'm effed....

I started wed night, I thought she was going to die that night. By Thursday evening I was much happier by Friday I was really happy with the progress but as you know she went into stasis on sat! I don’t think that was nebuliser related I think it was baytril related.

Okay, thank you. Poor poor Ziggy... You guys are having such a rough ride :(

Ceridwen fortunately is not on death's door anymore. She just can't quite shake the URI. And since we're so restricted in ABs, Celine wants to pursue this as an option alongside the sulfatrim before we look at the doxycycline, which can I appreciate. If we can pip this now, it'd be much better...

Sending you hugs, you are doing so much for your little piggy, you are so caring, thank goodness she found her way to you. I know that disolving into tears, I can't do this, feeling so well. I think it's a natural coping mechanism to stress and sleep deprivation, an you have been through so much in the last year. Last week at one stage I wanted to rehome my piggys and give up, but even as I said it I knew I didn't realy mean it. Hope Ceridwen gets better soon.

Spoken to Celine again, she's agreed that we need to start oral treatment for fungus using itraconazole. It's the US brand so Sporanox.

Also suggested to nebulise with diluted F10 solution to try and shift the last of the URI. So I'll be off to buy a nebuliser as well.

Sporanox is good, should hopefully nip it in the bud. Am so glad she agreed.

I have a nebuliser, not used it yet though. I got an Omron one from Amazon.

Me too. And while I am terrified, it surely has to be gentler on her system than griseofulvin...

I'm off to get that brand from boots saturday morning. I think it can wait until. saturday, she's not wheezing or hooting or coughing. Just sneezing.

Honestly, I have no money left now until tomorrow. Nothing. so it's gonna have to wait...

Thank you *hugs* Poor you, I have been there. Heck, I've been there a few times these last couple of weeks... I hope your situation improves too.

It is a lot more gentle I think. I have never had any issues with the UK version. The one in Boots is the one I got on Amazon, it was just out of stock every time I went to my branch as it is only a small one. A few more days will be fine as she is bright in herself and not got laboured breathing or anything, just the sneezing.

Okay. I will try and dial down my panic reaction then. Celine's just trying to prep me for the worst case scenario, which is fine, it's what you'd want from a responsible vet.

Aah thanks, worth knowing. I'll pre-order for pick up. Thanks, lovely.

Do they have overnight facilities for the piggies? It would be a good 5 hour journey for us and really, we'd have to find a hotel, which we all know is not going to accept rodents >.<

I inquired once with Travel Lodge and they were willing to allow us to have the piggies with us. Re Simon and Kim I make the 4 hour round trip so Astro can have his dental as he has no bottom incisors.

Thank you for the tips :) I hope it will never come to it again, but if it does, this time I will be ready.

I'm now wondering if we should treat for mites as well, but I am concerned about Ivermectin. Her weight is 358g, she's so small and so young I am seriously worried about adverse reactions to the drug... Any advice please?
Didn’t think you could use Ivermectin until they weigh 500 grams. Glad Vet appt today.x

She used Selamectin for her, the dosage was tinyyyy. I got kinda upset over the phone during the consult about it out of fear, she was very kind and assured me she would be fine. And she is. And the benefits are already really clear :)

I have to say, my vet is a wonder. I'm being an absolute PEST at the moment, on the telephone every day. She always calls me back and listens to my concerns and takes me seriously. I didn't realise just how lost I have been without her until now.

Oh God, now guinea lynx are saying itraconazole is really rough on the digestive system. Now I don't know what to do...

I am totally at my wits end. Ceri's nose has gotten noticeably more sore and there is some nasal discharge again. Just a little, it's not running out of her nose. But it's there.

I don't know what to do. I don't know whether to ask for the doxycycline and leave the sporanox. I don't know if she can wait til Saturday or if I should somehow try to get to Brighton tomorrow. I don't know what to do.

She's just eaten some grass and a handful of lettuce. There are lots of poops. She's eaten lots of nuggets.

I feel helpless. I don't know what to do.

Okay. My OH has told me off for being hysterical and made me take a breath. We have managed to give Ceri a little clean and cream of her nose. She is inhaling hay at the moment and has been popcorning. Celine is blissfully working on Saturday, so I have booked Ceri to see her in the afternoon. If anything changes I will find a way to get her there, but she is stable. She's not well but she's okay.

He did broach the idea that her nose being sore will be irritating it and this won't be helping with the sneezing. I don't know if this is true but it seems to make sense....

Binky continued to sneeze well after the antibiotics finished and had a wet nose, Biscuit has always had a slightly wet nose. She is happy and eating, and running around, if her behaviour changes you know you need to act.

She's currently sat in my lap working away at eating an entire lettuce while I give her a good nitcomb. She seems very content rn....

Can someone explain to me exactly how a nasal swab is taken from a GP please? I have heard rumours they have to be sedated? Also, if a swab is taken, how long does it take to get the results, generally?

I am thinking of asking for the vet for one tomorrow.
