Poorly Baby Pig

Well, what a weekend we had. Ceri had a bit of a poorly tummy Saturday, I think the pumpkin I shovelled into her worked too well and she had an upset stomach Saturday afternoon/evening. We got it under control within a few hours, she was very bright but just pooing up a mushy storm. No foul smell though and it wasn't watery, so we syringed her water and gave her loads of hay and by about midnight her poops were back to normal. Now a couple of days on, they actually look better than they have probably since we brought her home. They are normal, dark little pellets, a good size and consistency, and for the first time since she arrived they have no tails on them. I have stopped support feeding her as she eats well and I thought this might be a contributing factor too, too much wet food. I was just doing it to get the probiotics into her, but now I have her on fibreplex this isn't necessary as she loves the taste of that, so I don't have to disguise it anymore.

Also, some really good news; I spotted this morning the large bald patch on her side is starting to have some hair regrowth. It's a little border around the rim currently, but it's there. I was so very happy to see it. I'm hoping over time the rest will come in too.

Still waiting for her nasal swab results, I have high hopes for this though. 72 hours off antibiotics and still no sneezing or anything else untoward.

Bless Her, you are doing so well for her. She is so lucky to have found you

isn't it just the best feeling in the world? I always feel it's a huge sign of how much they trust us. :)
I don't know with Binks - its mixed with a liberal amount of mouth exploration (aka biting - can I bite this ooohhh she yelped let me try that again)

Little victories. Ceridwen finally tipped over the 400g mark last night. She's coming in at 410gms. Feels like a miracle that she is finally gaining weight. Still no swab results. Apparently the sample got lost and arrived 5 days late. I was told last wednesday I should the results by friday. Still nothing...

I'm really tired. Ceri -is- getting better bit by bit, but it's exhausting. The itraconazole is messing with her gut in a big way and I hate the stuff now. We halved her dose and she's just about managing on that. And now my Luna has something wrong with her eye. lotd of cleaning fluid build up drying into a gunk at her tear duct. I couldn't see anything obvious, but her eyes are black so it's hard to say if she's had a hay poke.

So we're back to the vets tomorrow.

So tired. *head desk*

Oh, and also, do you know what's truly terrifying and hilarious all at once? Waking up on a Saturday morning and opening your eyes to see your baby guinea pig sat on the carpet staring back at you, looking pleased as punch with herself.

Somebody can fit through the C&C grids. Somebody's cage how now been turned into Pigcatraz.

We got our Little Rose at 3 weeks old to bond with Rosie and Rosie was so mean to her she squeezed through the grids too and got in with 2 of the other pigs. Looking at the size of her bum now I can't believe she was ever that small.

haha little monster!

I honestly didn't think it was possible. I built the sides high and I'd seen her try to press her face through a few times but there seemed to be now way she'd fit. but then I -saw- her do it later in the day and she made it look effortless. little rotter!

That's terrifying - hubby said shall we cut the correx down to normal size now - I'm thankful I said no I didn't want heads caught.

Hope your piggys get well soon. You are doing so much for them I am in awe of your patience and knowledge. Good luck at the vets tomorrow.
I keep getting an amusing vision of Ceridwen sitting looking at you with an expression that says "see how clever I am". I doubled the grids round my C&C for Rusty as I was afraid he would get his head stuck. I took them down this week as he nows weighs 610gms - hope I've not done it too soon, Spike and Peanut needed their playpen back!

Thank you hun *hugs* Luna seems okay in herself, just goopy eye, hopefully it' nothing a few days eyedrops won't fix.

She really was looking at me like that, she was just happily sat on the carpet with the biggest piggy smile while I'm blearily eyed staring at her still half asleep like 'Wait, What?!'

Best possible news in the world this morning. The swab results came in. Clear of all bacterial infection. There's -nothing-. From a bacterial standpoint, she's 100%.

In fact, providing the ringworm does not resurface within the 14 days after we finish the intraconazole, they don't want to see her again. She's 3 more daysof meds, one more bath and two more weeks preventative quarantine away from a completely clean bill of health.

I'm so relieved. I was bawling when the vet called me, just... So relieved. It's almost over...

*bangs head against wall* Ceridwen's ringworm is back. Patch just above her tailbone. I don't ruddy believe it. Well, I do, she was on a reduced dose of itraconazole. But I thought we were in the clear. GFDI. Back on Itraconazole, trying the full dosage this time with lots of poo soup support for her gut. So- UNBELIEVABLY- frustrated.

In so sorry, that’s pants!

*hugs* Thanks hun. I'm mostly just frustrated. I thought this was over. Means more tummy upsets, extended quarantine... If we are lucky we might have her healed the day before Christmas... That would be a good present.

I know the feeling. Zig jumped down off a ramp yesterday and she must have got something stuck in her nose. Usually when one of them does that I check them and then watch them for half an hour, instead there was lots of swearing and I popped her in a nebuliser. needless to say 20 min later she was fine - but I was panic stricken.

Oh that's horrid >.< I'm glad she's okay though, little pickle does love to cause trouble!

We've had a weekend of it too, Ceri got an update stomach, turns out OH had slipped her a grape. Then Freyja and Frigga had squishy poops too, Also from too many treats from OH. And Luna is still on ABs for her UTI. It's been syringes, critical care globs, butt baths, then when I saw the ringworm patch last night I almost cried.
