Poorly Daisy Again, At Wits End

She is like a different GP. Is frusol the same as furosemide? Do you mix your own from tablet form?
 
It is the liquid form, but yes I use the tablet form (Furosemide) and mix with water. Ours don't have it regularly so we tend to only use it when needed.

Heart meds really can make such a difference. Mrs Fuzzy was 623g when she arrived and was tachycardic, within a few days of being on heart meds she started to gain weight and was more lively. A year on and she is 1050g and a complete lunatic.
 
Daisy is still doing v well, her weight is hovering around the 865g mark which is excellent as she did go below 800. I stopped the corvental last night so tonight is the second day without it and up to now she seems fine. I have spoken with the local vet who has said that shared care with Ashleigh is fine and she will get the staff to contact them for her history. I need to book her in with the local vet for a check up and will broach the dosage issue then as I feel so ill tonight that I couldn't be bothered trying to explain. Daisy is still an eating machine but her weight seems to have stabilised, she was heavier before she started to be ill but isn't abig boned piggie.
 
Good to know she is making an improvement :) hopefully the vet has good news :)
 
Daisy is off to see the local vet tomorrow evening for routine check and discussion about her meds. She is still doing well.
 
Around day 5 to 7 on the increased dose of fortekor daisy was actually pop corning around the living room but since then she is quieter. She is eating, drinkink, pooping, showing interest in things and generally mooching around but she isn't lively. Her weight pre illness was as high as 973, did drop below 800 and is now 15g lower tonight than it has been, at 845. She is at the local vet tomorrow, I wonder if her meds need increasing, she is on 0.5mg of fortekor bd and 1ml of frusol bd which I think is 4mg bd.
 
It may be they do need tweaking Karen, 1mg of Foretkor a day is an introductory dose and the Frusol may need tweaking too while you work out the right balance for her.
 
Okay, back from our local vet Helen. She has given Daisy a check over and they have received her notes from Ashleigh, unfortunately they had been sent to one of the vetinary nurses who wasn't in so Helen hadn't had chance to go through them thoroughly. I explained to her what dose of fortekor I was giving and she is going to order the meds in for Daisy. She wants to read through the info I took with me and have a good look at the notes and will see us again on Friday. She did seem interested in the research I had done so hopefully we can work together on the dosing, she wants me to carry on what she is currently on till friday.
 
That sounds promising, hopefully she will have a good understanding of things once she has read her notes and the information you have given her.
 
Just an update on Daisy doo. She is doing really well, maintaining her weight and has her nightly dash round the living room. She has had very soft poops yesterday, started Thursday evening. Kept her off the veggies and her bottom is nice and dry now, she has never stopped eating all day and poops seem fine.
 
Ok, Miss Daisy is off to the vets tonight. She has been having rapid breathing again and sounding a bit clicky when breathing, also an occasional cough after eating. Spoke to the local vet this morning and she wants to see her. She is eating, drinking and pooping but needs to be checked I think. What a worry our piggies are.
 
Helen, the vet cannot hear anything going on in Daisy's chest/heart, her temp is normal, no loss of weight, she isnt concerned about what I think is a swollen tummy, she says everything feels normal. She is booked in for X Ray tomorrow at another branch of vetcare as they have a digital X Ray machine and Helen thinks will be better for Daisy. She is munching away now oblivious to the worry she is causing.

Daisy had her x ray and the vet spent a lot of time going through them with me, he seems to think that there is a problem in her lungs but not sure what. He is sending the x rays to specialist radiologists to see what they say and will ring me when he has more info. He is going to e mail the x ray pics to me. On getting home from the vet I put her carry case down and opened the door, got Jasper out of cage and went to fridge for a treat for them; when I got back in living room, daisy was eating! She seems to have perked up and this evening she has had a dash round the living room. I think she just likes visiting the vet every so often.
 
Okay, results of daisys x ray has confirmed she is indeed a heart pig and the vet is gonna add in another med. We are still on hols but daisy and jasper arw being well looked after by relatives and both are doing well. Booked in to see vet next weds. The new local vets have been absolutely brill and we will e sticking with them.
 
So pleased you have an official diagnosis. My thought is that he may be adding in Vetmedin as it is fairly common for heart pigs to need this in addition to Fortekor.
 
I think the drug the vet mentioned was aldactone because the furosemide isn't clearing the fluid even though she is on quite a large dose.
 
Has anyone had any experience with the use of spironolactone for heart piggies.
