I haven't been on the forum for a while! I've been very busy after the arrival of my newborn niece and college work, however I am writing in a time of need and worry as my little Beansprout is not well.
As I came upstairs for my shower and I walked into my room, the only piggy to greet me at the door was Noodle and Bean was just hunched in the corner, fur ruffled and completely still and silent. No squealing for food, nothing. So I got her out and she did not budge, she was still and quiet which is not normal as she is a young and lively guinea pig. I then wrapped her up in a towel and took her to my sisters room as my parents were out and explained she wasn't right so my sister went and got her some broccoli and she nibbled some of the stalk and then turned her back on it and nuzzled into my jumper which also isn't normal as she would never leave any veg and broccoli is one of her faves. I've checked her all over and she's got no visible lumps or bumps on her body but we went to weigh her and as I lifted her out of the tub there was some runny watery poo on the towel. As of now I'm lay in bed with her wrapped up in a towel and blanket, with water, veg, hay, pellets and her favourite treat all in tub-a-ware around me trying to get her to eat just a bit but she won't, she's nibbled a bit of hay and then turned away but thats all I've got out of her. She's just cuddled up into me now with her eyes barely open. I would syringe feed her but we don't have a syringe unfortunately but will get one as soon as possible and if she's no better in the morning the first thing I'm doing is ringing the vets. its breaking my heart to see her like this as she's such a loving and lively piggy and this just isn't her :( please leave good thoughts and prayers for my little baby, I'm finding it hard to keep myself together tonight but I will not give up on my baby Beansprout :(
 
I'm sorry you have found Bean is unwell.if your piggie is not eating it is vital to get food into Bean. i would call the vet urgently to ask for advise.you can get some pellets and pour warm water over these and mash the pellets.maybe try a spoon.vet should have syringes or sometimes 24 hour chemists have syringes.Bean could have pain somewhere ,but i cannot really be certain.a vet visit is needed to examine Bean.maybe if you are able ring your parents for support.i really hope Bean improves.:)

I have tried that but its not working, there are no vets open now around where I live but I'm going to get her in tomorrow 100%. my parents are back now and have been supporting me which I'm very grateful for. she doesn't seem in a great amount of pain but she does seem uncomfortable but I'm making her as comfortable as I can. thank you so much for your advice and well wishes x
 
i agree with Eileen,also if she's got puffed hair & hunched in a corner this usually means they are in pain, see if you can get her to a vet ASAP if you only have a general vet nearby, they should still be able to prescribe Pain relief such as Loxicom.
try cutting out/down on greens/veg for a day or two, just give Hay, pellets & water. when the diarrhea is under control then start feeding small amounts of one veg & gradually increase in types & quantity to get her gut accustomed to veg again.

its currently almost 2am in the morning here and there are no vets open unfortunately. thank you for your advice I will definitely cut down on veggies for a few days!x

make sure she doesn't stop eating, this will make her gut stop working & go into stasis, which will complicate things & hinder recovery drastically.
try chopping bits of hay up or giving a strand or two at a time, hopefully she'll be able to manage this, get the vet to check her teeth & mouth to see if its a dental issue thats caused it. even a case of oral thrush (damp dishcloth smelling breath) could make it uncomfortable for her & stop eating so causing the digestive system to run riot!
see if you can get any probiotics to help stabilise her gut (fibreplex/biolapis/avipro plus or even the tub in pets at home-cant remember the name something like pro c?)
its 1am here too, please see a vet ASAP, keep her warm & comfortable too.

I'm softening pellets for her to eat and she's turning her head away from the straw. her diarrhoea is quite bad. I'm keeping her warm and cosy with me and will see the vets in the morning 100% x

she has completely stopped eating now and I am doing everything I can to try and give her food she will just not take it. I have been crying to my mum and I'm just going to continue to keep her as comfy as possible and not give up. this is hard.
 
you can ring your vet out of hours,this is an emergency.there will be a number given to you if you ring your normal surgery.i appreciate this is difficult,but if this is watery poo that is coming out.your piggie will dehydrate very quickly.i hope you can get support soon.on guinea lynx there is information on this site regarding diarrohea ,maybe you could show your parent this.this does not replace veternary care.:hug:

our vet doesn't open or take calls until 9am, I will look on guinea lynx, I'm 16 so its hard for me but I'm appreciating all of your advice and support

she's eating some hay and has drank some water now

she is drinking so much water now and eating little bits of hay
 
how did your guinea get on? what has the vet said?

oh by the way if she needs rehydrating or vitamins & minerals, if you have a pharmacy or tesco's etc, you could try giving her either dioralyte or metatone tonic (used for humans, but useful if trying to boost a poorly guinea too)

Hope you were able to get her seen today, I appreciate it may be difficult with school etc. How is she doing?
 
this morning she was eating more but still lethargic, took her to the vets and she's completely healthy just got a bit of gas and just have to cut down on the veg for a few days. she's still a little quiet but a lot better than before. our vet has also given us some critical care fine grind which we've been mixing with water and syringe feeding her every 2 hours. thank you all for your support and advice, beansprout is on the mend :luv:
