I have 2 male Guinea pigs and their currently in a cage, their outdoor hut is a lot bigger but I’m not sure when they can go outside. During the day it’s 21 degrees but of a night time it drops to 12 degrees according to the weather app. They have currently been out of a day and in at night. I have a newborn baby due any day and would like them outside till the Baby's had their first jabs. Is it too cold or hot for them to go outside? How can I make their hut comfy for them? It’s in a place sheltered by the wall and other stuff so the wind shouldn’t hit if its windy and plenty of shade. If they need to stay in I obviously will have to keep them inside. Any advice welcome, I’m new to this only had them 5 weeks 😅

If they have been out during the day for a few weeks then it is probably warm enough for them to be out at night now as well, particularly if your area is no longer having any frosts. It is a little chillier but with lots of hay and a hutch cover then they should be ok.

It’ll be the heat of the day that you need to be keep an eye on. A hutch can trap heat and get hotter than outdoor temperatures suggest. Have a thermometer in the hutch so you can monitor that it is staying below 25 degrees in there

Thankyou! No we haven’t had frost for a while. My garden is usually lovely and cool of a evening so shouldn’t be too hot. I will buy a thermometer to keep in their hutch, Thankyou!

Treat them like tender plants. If they’ve been having time outside they will be gradually acclimatising to outside temperatures. As long as there are no very cold nights forecast they should be ok, especially if you can keep the hutch cool during the day and warm enough at nights. A hutch thermometer is a great idea.
