Dental Rapid Weight Loss, Help?

Thanks everyone for all of your help, but sadly Muffin was put to sleep at lunchtime today, Kim felt that no matter what invasive tests we could have done it was clear that is was something terminal and Muffin was very close to the end anyway. A very sad day for us, but at least we know she isn't suffering. Debbie i can't thank you enough for everything you have done (and for the hug). My daughter is devastated but is very much looking forward to finding a new cage mate for a very lonely Smudge. What an astonishingly brilliant vets practice, couldn't be more impressed. Thank you so much all, for making Muffin's last days as best they could have been and helping me to get to the right decision with some peace.

Ps when Muffin's ashes are returned to the practice I may reach out for help to get them back to us, if anyone is passing Maidenhead on their pig loving travels!

Aw, I am so very sorry that you lost Muffin. You did everything in your power, sadly it was not to be and Muffin has gone to the rainbow bridge. Sending you huge hugs. Take care, and hope you find a lovely friend for Smudge. Xxxxx

I'm so sorry you had to say goodbye to Muffin.
You did everything you possibly could, my thoughts are with you, your daughter and Smudge.
X

It was lovely to meet you today, although under such sad circumstances. If you would like me to collect Muffin's ashes, when they are returned I can do, and keep them safe until we can get them to you, just let me know? x

So sorry for your loss today. From what you have said Muffin was ready to go and is not suffering now. When you are ready we have a Rainbow Bridge section on the forum, you are welcome to post a dedication to Muffin. Sending virtual hugs x

Oh lord, I was having a well needed cuddle with Smudge tonight and noticed a white lump on the side of her nose (she's a jet black Rex). After losing Muffin today I am in bits, please tell me a little white lump is something a normal vet can deal with? We were going to go on the hunt for a new cage mate for Smudge tomorrow, but I guess I should hold off on that until we know what the problem is with Smudge? Maybe I am paranoid after the last three weeks? :-( wish I lived in Northampton! X

I'm so sorry you had to say goodbye to Muffin.

Try not to panic about the white lump. Could you open a new thread for Smudge and post a photo so we can have a look?

I am ever so sorry that you had to make that decision. What a sad day for you! :(
You are welcome to post a tribute to Muffin in our Rainbow Bridge section if and whenever it feels right for you.

Could you post a picture; the sudden white lump is most likely boar glue (dried semen) which smudge could have got on his nose when he was cleaning his bits and picking up his vitapoos. Nothing to worry about; but you are not in any state to deal with anything unexpected right now!

Here are our tips on what you can do for Smudge: https://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/looking-after-a-bereaved-piggy.110463/

Hazelcroft is likely to be your closest rescue, but it may be useful to contact any rescues within your reach. Don't just go by the website; talk to the rescues, as not all rescues, especially the smaller ones always have got suitable companion piggies handy.

@Wiebke this is a girl, so not going to be boar glue!

Please can you post a pic? xx

Good news smudge just has a little sore on her nose, need to keep an eye on it in case it gets bigger, but nothing to worry about. You'll now see me posting looking for a single female cage mate for her, think of me if you come across anyone, Berkshire seems to have no single sows left weather it be be rescues or pet shops :-(

Sorry - I tend to get confused when jumping between far too many threads/piggies and the names are gender neutral, especially when I have got a busy time in real life, too.

Best of luck with the sore; I hope that it is not fungal.

Thanks so much both, you have made me feel better at least. the vet today did say an exotics specialist was the way forward, especially to do a blood test that needs to be taken from close to her heart so uber risky, I guess I am torn between spending a huge amount of money to find out there's nothing we can do...is that awful? I think I already know the answer to that though..at this stage I will try anything! Thanks Abi, all the above questions will really help me when I next see the vet, I'll look for my nearest exotics specialist on the tab, apparently there's one in Swindon. So sad :-(
