Hi all,

Just made this account because I’m worried about my guinea pig and am not sure if this is cause for concern. I’m new to raising piggies, and would be grateful for any thoughts on this.

My girl is just a couple months old, and I was trying to take a closer look at her nipples because I noticed they are quite dark and I wasn’t sure if that is normal. I was checking if they were swollen or crusty (as far as I can tell they aren’t) and noticed she also has a sort of dry and sore looking patch of skin near one of them.

She didn’t stay still very well for the picture, so for further description, it doesn’t look lumpy, just flaky and a possible scab or something (hard to see in pic).

Please help if you can; thank you!

I think if you’re worried it’s best to get her seen by the vet. I can just about see the area you’re talking about, but I’m not a vet and our advice can’t replace hands on examinations. Hopefully it’s nothing.

Does she live with a friend or friends?

Hello and welcome to the forum 😃.

One of my piggies had a couple of red flaky patches on his legs recently. I took him to the vets and we are treating for mites. The vet said it looked like he had caused the patches by biting himself as he would be itchy. Definitely get her seen by a vet as it could be a few things. Don’t treat with over the counter medication as they are not strong enough to work and you will end up paying more in the long run. Hope she gets sorted soon.

Welcome to the forum.
The best advice is always that if you have any concern go to the vet.
We can give information, share personal experience and offer support but we can’t diagnose a problem.
Hope it’s nothing serious.
Please let us know how you get on.
