Should I remove pieces of hay like this if they’re not imbedded? Can they do it themselves?

Sometimes in my hay pile they’ll come out like this, generally I’ll help them, but my worry is that I’m causing more irritation. Should I worry about these? Should I do something if they’re under the eyelid? Thanks!

If you can I would gently remove it

If you can remove it without scratching the surface, then try or wait and see whether it fetches up against the conjunctiva where it is easier to pick up from. The same goes also for any hairs that end up in the eye.
