I'm a relatively new piggie mom and after having my young male piggie for a few months we decided to have him neutered so we could adopt a female.
Our male is very skittish, he's about 6 months old and since we adopted him a few months ago he's warmed up to us to be able to come up to us when called, take food from our hand, and allow being a pet occassionally. He hates being picked up so we try to not handle him too much or we pick him up in a fleece tunnel. We adopted our female whos about 2 months old so he would feel more safe and of course happier. He's become less of a "turtle" as we call him - he usually hides in his box and just sticks his head out, and has even let us pet him more in his cage. But the female, who when we adopted her, was very vocal and almost fearless, since putting her in our male's cage has started to become a lot more skittish and now doesn't allow us to pet her at all. When we had her in her own cage she was fine being picked up and pet and never seemed afraid of us at all. I'm not sure if shes picking up on how the older male acts or if she's just still overwhelmed by being in a bigger cage and with a cage mate (she's been in there for about a week now). We thought she may be wary of us that we might try to separate them.
Also she is is not afraid of us - she will come right to us and sniff/nibble our fingers and take food from us without a problem, but as soon as you try to touch her she will run away (but will come back immediately for food). Any tips or insight?
