Thank you, he really is a sweetie. DH just bought the hutch & run in from my car, we are going to put them together tomorrow night & hope that they can do the home check sooner rather than later.

I just want him home now, my son keeps asking to go back & see him, so sweet :) I'll take him again before the weekend. It was so nice of them to say we could visit daily if we wanted to.

What a lovely pig, I bet you are so excited.

Well done for rehoming and especially for rehoming a boar. He looks lovely and I am sure he will be very spoilt and loved.

Please keep us posted to how he gets on - and more pigtures, as we all love photos! :))

I think thats lovely, I'm sure your son will love having him home, my boys love our piggies, they are so addictive drool

Thank you, we are very excited about having him home :) Daft how animals can make you feel like a little kid again, all excited about something LOL

This is the hutch I've bought him...

I've also bought the rain cover & snuggle so he will be kept dry etc. His run is 4*4 foot.

I do need to find a ramp so he can get from the hutch in to the garden, any idea where I can buy one?

Thanks again, it's fun having others who appreciate the joy things like this can bring & who don't think I'm mad about being excited to be rescuing a piggy! :)

What a gorgeous fellow - well done you for adopting him. All too often boars are over looked :( Look forward to seeing some pics of him when he's settled in :)

wow that hutch all for him! i have 2 storey ones for my boys, but when the babies go outside (and if they cant be bonded) i will be closing the ramp off (they have never used it yet! lol) and the older boys will have a floor each. Which means the babies would have a 2 storey to themselves. If not, a baby and older boy to each one. Let me know how he gets on with the ramp.
Do you mean you will be leaving him so he has access into the run from the hutch all day? and thats what you need another ramp for? They are very easy to make, or you could use a box or different sized ice-cream cartons to look like steps? i have these in my play area and my boys love jumping up and down (but they are weighted so they dont move about) or something?
Hope you get him soon x

Thanks everyone. I don't understand why boars get overlooked? He is adorable & surely their gender doesn't really matter when you are not breeding?

Yes it's all for him, one very spoilt piggy! LOL Having said that in time I might try & bond him with a younger piggy, he is about 9 months old they think so I'll leave it for at least 6 months before I try. I thought if they don't bond I can just close off the ramp so they have their own living space that way we wouldn't need to worry about having to return one to the rescue if it didn't work out. We really don't have space for another hutch.

Yes, the plan is for Harry to have free access to the run whenever I'm home, as I'm a stay at home mum we are in & out all day so he will get lots of run time. (The garden is very secure so the rabbit has access to his run even when we are out, his set up is extreemly secure thanks to extra things we have done to it). I let Rabbit out at 6am & he goes in at 10pm just so I know he's tucked up over night. Harry will just go out when I'm home though.

Lucky Harry!

yeah i have lara and lightning the rabbits out all day (well they take it in turns) and the piggies are in runs but not attached to the hutches, so i physically lift them in and out, and have a load of pigloos for shelter, extra bowls, water bottles attached etc. Just makes it easier. I tried to have the run attached to the hutch but they never came out much, but thats probs just my lazy boys! lol

Good luck with building the hutches.. it took me 3 days to build 2 two storeys and 2 singles.. haha.. although the first was the worst, it just wouldnt go together...I'm sure they were faulty, the others went up no bother.. Did you order on-line? I did, and got the free accessory kit, which was great.

I bet you have hardly slept and cant wait! x)

Harry is going to be one spoilt little piggy!

The first guinea pig that "chose" me happened to be a girl - that's how I ended up with three ladies and one neutered boar.

I have always said that later on Dizzy adopted herself ("Dizzy", instead of Daisy, from the speed she made herself at home!) and I let her choose her new boyfriend when she needed a new companion...

You might like to get one of the piggy accessories lady to sew you a tunnel for the ramp, so Harry is not so frightened aboout using it. I think Sarah from Chucklebunnies does them.

All the best for your homecheck!

Thank you. We've put the hutch & run together & am disappointed with it's quality, much worse than the Thistle Hall we have for the rabbit which is really good. This one really seems very expensive for the quality you get. Also the run can't go next to the cage or the door wont open. Very frustrating as you would think they would be compatible! We are going to have to do some adaptions, make a stable door so Harry can have his run attached to the hutch. I'm glad I got the snuggle & rain cover as the hutch will need the extra protection it gives.

I've set it all up, all his toys etc are in there so we are ready for the home check now :) Still no phone call about it though so I've no idea when it will be :( I'll phone tomorrow afternoon to ask for an update, either that or we'll visit Harry & ask about it then :)

I've just phoned the RSPCA & they said my details were passed to the homechecker this morning. I hope she phones today & can come out soon, I'd love to have Harry home this weekend :)

The waiting can be so awkward - hopefully everything works out in time!

It took me about three days between the home check and the OK; but the home check was done by Coventry, and the girls were from Walsall... But once you get the OK you can pick him up anytime!

All the best
Vicky

Thank you. I was told when we met Harry at the RSPCA that we would be told the result of the home check straight away & it would move very quickly from then. I hope they were right. There is a good chance it's going to be the same lady who came out for our rescue hamster who kept strongly hinting then that there were lots of piggies & rabbits who could do with being in a home like ours :)) She was rather impressed with our Rabbit hutch & run :)

Good! I think in my case Coventry RSPCA didn't get back to Walsall RSPCA until a couple of days later.

Keep us posted!

We had the home check this morning, the lady who does them lives near by so came out shortly after phoning me. I now have to wait for a phone call from the RSPCA to tell me if I've passed. She said hopefully they will call me today as she was going straight home & would phone them as soon as she got in. Hopefully they will phone soon, she did say we had a wonderful set up so I'm fairly confident we'll get a 'yes' :))

One very frightened Harry is now in his new home :) He is adorable. I'm leaving him in peace to start to get used to his new surroundings.

Thank you :)

How long should I leave him to settle in before I start to try tp make friends so to speak?

I talked to mine the same day but didnt handle til the next day and made it very brief. Suppose its best to see how he is, and how well he looks to settle in. I'm pretty new to all this as well, so pretty sure someone will offer better advice. The older boys i handled for a bit the same night, before i put them in the hutch, and when i fed them later, one was licking and sniffing my hand, so i got him out for a bit. The other hid so i just left him.
Bet you cant wait! x

Congratulations - glad it all moved quickly!

Mine did too as homechecker in next village, I'm not collecting my boys til Sun but thats as I'm 20 miles away from Walsall and dont drive so need to wait until my Dad can take me over and I work 9-5 so means eves/weekends for collection.

But I'm happy about Sunday am as means Il have them home by lunch and they can settle in during the afternoon but Il be able to watch them as I plan to be tackling the garden this weekend:)

Look forward to photos once Harry has settled in!

I've just been out to check on him (again, lol). He's eaten all the veg I gave him & all the pellets :) Instead of just putting the pellets in one bowl I put them in a few places to try & encourage him to explore, it worked :)

Hi, congrats - that went quickly!

Check on him often and always talk to him - talk, talk talk, best if your head is as much on his height as possible.

Try to entice him with holding little treats in front of him and see whether he's picking them up, if not, put it down in front of him, but stay to see whether he'll pick it up.

Have a little treat ready whenever you pick him up for a cuddle. He might be too nervous to take it, but eventually he will. Give it to him afterwards. Praise him for every little success and tell him what a handsome lad he is. He'll lap it up!

You have a good start - he's feeding and moving around already! He'll settle in quicker than you might think.

Just a quick update...

Harry is doing well :) He's eating & when he thinks no one is looking he does explore his hutch. I put him in his run yesterday & he coped well, hid lots but also came out to explore when he thought no one was watching :) He is adorable, a really lovely little chap :):):)
