I'm attempting to grow more food for my pigs (currently trying to get Carrot, celery, lettuce and fennel to grow. I'm also going to grow wheatgrass for them). I heard that sprouts in general can be really beneficial, but I don't know what types I can actually grow for the pigs. Anyone tried this before and have recommendations?

Yes if you mean like brussel sprouts that hoomans eat with their Christmas dinner, these should be treated like any other cabbagey brassica veg- fine in small amounts once or twice a week at most, but high in calcium/oxalate and also a possible bloat trigger if fed too much or too often. And as @Betsy says, may cause stinky farts and poops, we have this with broccolli and Ollie pigwig, he loves broccolli but it doesnt love him back and his wifepig kicks him out of bed for having a stinky bum and black squishy smelly caecotrophs if he over does the brassicas!

I mean sprouts as in small seedlings.I've seen people grow Broccoli, lentils and sunflower sprouts for pigs as well, thanks for the warning about them becoming extra stinky lol

Ah I see, small seedling sprouts of various food veg may well be very tasty and full of nutrients, though I'm not sure which would be best... pea shoots and beansprouts are certainly tasty nutritious piggy veggies... have you thought about growing some herbs like coriander? That grows really fast and is usually a big favourite with piggies, and very rich in vitamin C!

I haven't got any herbs growing yet, but my mum makes curry a lot so next time she gets coriander I'll try and propagate it :) I'll look into some bean sprouts for them

You can grow coriander from seeds, bought off eBay or Amazon- they seem to do much better than trying to grow on shop bought live edible plants :)

I grow coriander from seed. I takes a while for the seeds to germinate but once they get going there is no stopping them.

Yes you will have to grow coriander from seed (it doesn’t take from cuttings, unlike basil which does work from cuttings)
