Hello,

I am new to this forum, but I have had guinea pigs for most of my life. One of my piggies has a spur on her front foot (no big deal), however today I noticed a bump on her other front foot.

Does it look like bumblefoot? She has black spots on her pads and it makes it difficult.

Hi and welcome!

You are dealing with the start of spurs. Please leave spurs be unless they are in danger of catching and ripping open live skin. When cutting back spurs, please don't cut too close to live skin as it is very painful and cripple a foot; rather see a vet or a piggy savvy vet nurse. Thankfully, most spurs can be simply left!

Bumblefoot starts with localised small round red areas that then turn into open sows, typically in the middle of a pad while spurs are horny (dead) skin growths on the side of the pads or the foot but never in the middle of a cushion pad. It is rare in well kept piggies, except in frail elderlies with circulatory and mobility/arthritis issues that are no longer able to take weight off their feet.

That is a huge relief! She does not seem bothered by them at all, which is why it took me so long to notice.

I realize I didnt specify. I am concered about the bump on the side of her front toe.

In which picture? I still don't see any sign of bumblefoot whatsoever.

They look fine to me... bumblefoot usually looks red/inflamed even before any open sores show up. Those look like normal feet to me!

Looks like maybe the first foot has a spur but the second foot is just a healthy piggy foot :)
