So I've seen at least two full blown arguments about giving piggies bananas and/or oranges off the forum. What do you think of giving piggies either one? Quite a few think one bite kills so I'm just curious :D

You're joking right? I didn't know they can't have bananas.. I've given my piggies banana bit hearing this.. But having said that there's been no ill effect on them at all. Never tried oranges though as I'd of thought they're too strong

Guinea pigs can eat either fruit safely (including organic banana skin), as long as you feed fruit (including tomatoes) no more than twice in a week in order to prevent the acid in the fruit causing cheilitis (lip infection) from feeding any fruit either too often or in too big quantities. One slice of orange or a chunk of banana counts as a "portion".

Most of mine like banana but not orange, They get it as a rare treat although recently Rosie has been having( baby food )banana mixed into her critical care

When I got my first boy Hazelnut, I tried everything on the fresh food list on the forum, including bananas, to see what he would like. He refused to try any food except carrots, parsley, baby spinach leaves, cos lettuce, redoak lettuce, mizuna lettuce & chard lettuce. I'd waft it all in front of his nose or bring it up right to his mouth & he would always keep his incisors clamped tightly shut if he didn't want it. For an 11week old baby he was a right fusspot. In any case, not fond of fruit.

At 7 months I managed to get 4 week old Peanut Butter to be his friend. He was happy to try anything but the minute he saw Hazelnut was not eating it, he would stop. In the end he went on the same diet as Hazelnut. They are now almost 4 & 5 years old.

Last November I adopted two 2.5 year old boys. Decided it was just easier to keep everyone on the dame vegie diet & so far they are thriving on it.

The only ones that eat fruit in this house is me & poochie! She LOVES sliced banana & tomatoes. I do remove the tomato seeds though as she is a shi-tzu & I'm somewhat afraid of her choking on them. She also expects to get carrot batons when the piggy boys get them!

Kiwi and Willow get both these fruits but only occasionally, which they are annoyed about as Orange is one of their favourites!
When they have banana they like to squish a bit on the side of their food bowls just where I put my fingers when I remove them! Yuck!

I sometimes give a bit of banana and maybe some satsuma, but never the skin of either. They either love it or loathe it. and I mean maybe once in a blue moon.
Have you ever tried them on kiwi fruit? Mine only had a bit, but are not fans.
