The Pigglingtons

Sadly Red stopped eating yesterday. I think the end is near. He went to bed after his dinner Saturday night as normal, he was his usual cheeky demanding self. I've been awake most of the night thinking things over and had decided to ring the vet first thing this morning. On reflection he is comfortable (still accepting his pain meds) and in his bed with Brillo the other side of the divider. Everything is very calm so I have decided to wait and see if he will go without intervention. Of course I will take him to the vet if he struggles or is in pain. My vets have someone available 24/7 although out of hours won't be an exotic vet. I would prefer him to go at home in familiar surroundings.

Ironically I have a pair of young babies arriving this evening from a neighbour. I did think about asking to delay the arrival but then decided they would be a welcome distraction and they will be better off here in our north facing room with the temperatures rising even more tomorrow.

BIG HUGS

I am so sorry to hear that.

It can be hard living with the extremes of saying goodbye and welcome at the same time but the little ones will hopefully provide a new focus in the coming days as they settle in and develop their personalities while you are still going to miss Red.

Anyway, I wish him a gentle and smooth journey to the Rainbow Bridge.

My thoughts are with you.

Thank you.
This bit is hard, wanting to throw everything into saving them when you know you can't, there's no cure for old age.
Working out building a baby proof cage has kept me busy and my mind off things. I've never had such tiny piggies before (not exactly sure how many weeks old yet until I speak to the owner tonight), the temperature here is forecast to be 33 tomorrow and the babies are in a neighbours shed.

I’m sorry to hear about Red - hopefully he’ll make his own way to RB
How kind and caring to take the two babies …especially if they’re housed in a shed
As you mentioned, the distraction is good
Beautiful lovely Red 🥰

Thank you.

Enjoy the pups. They are so mad once they have settled in and grow so fast... But the babies should be OK despite the heat if they are used to a shed.

Just keep them as cool as possible and give your poorly boy a fridge cooled snugglesafe for afternoon and evening when it gets really sticky and hot to shove under a fleece or cosy.

Holding you and Red in my heart ♥️.
May his passing be peaceful, surrounded by your love.

Have fun with the babies.
Looking forward to pictures

They are here! 6 weeks old, grabbed a photo before they discovered they had a house to hide in. Himalayan twins one is going to be Snoopy the other name not yet decided. As I can't tell them apart it doesn't really matter!
The original plan was to have a baby to try with Bertie but Bertie is so happy in his own cage with his friend Duck next door in the end I couldn't do it, especially when it would have meant splitting two little brothers up.
Red was the only baby baby I've ever had probably 10/12 weeks which considering he's about to leave us is somehow making their arrival more special. Red has hung on so far today but I feel the end is near. He has gone from his fleece hidey where Brillo was watching over him to his hay box where he has buried himself in hay. He is probably starting to feel cold, I have put a warm Snuggle safe beside him.

Thinking of Red and hoping he has a gentle and peaceful passing.

Welcome to your very cute little babies :)

I think possibly Snoopy and Parker in tribute to Red. Parker is a nickname we gave Red because of the way he stands in the corner of his cage looking out at us to see what we are doing with a very disapproving expression. Parker as in Nosey Parker. We have a list of a few names we want to use before we give up piggies all together but that one seems the most appropriate considering the Red situation.

Sending hugs in this sad/happy time. The boys are stunning.
Sending love to Red for a peaceful passing when the Bridge calls him xx

Red was helped on his way at the vets this morning.
I am so grateful to Sonia who saw his name on a list and fitted us in. Sonia went above and beyond today, she was there when Red was a baby and first joined our family (she was new then and now she's head vet, a very well deserved promotion) and she was there for him at the end. Red had something major going on with his heart, it was erratic, fast and loud with an added murmur. Sonia also suspects a blood clot in his hip area which is why his arthritis seemed so much worse and he lost the use of his back legs. Red left this world very quickly and surrounded by love.

I've not seen the babies yet today although some food has gone.

I’m sorry. Enjoy the greenest grass over the bridge gorgeous Red. ❤️

I’m sorry to hear that Red has travelled to RB
