The Pigglingtons

I just found this photo on my camera, it made me smile. Bertie is refusing to come out of his loft so I can clean it. The next move is to run into the hidey at the end to stop me cleaning that out. He does this every day, he rushes up to the loft as soon as he hears the buckets come in the room. The loft is 4 grids long and goes across his and Duck's cage, Duck didn't want his share so I took the dividing grid out.

Caught him a few days ago in that hidey refusing to come out so I could clean the loft. Sorry it's a bit dark up there the camera had trouble focusing.

Here's Bertie's neighbour Duck relaxing in his favourite spot.

@A Guinea Pig asked for a picture of Brillo's bald spot. Sorry it took me a few days to get it!

It grows in slightly and then gets bigger and balder again. This is the smallest it's been for some time. He gets it both sides of his spine but the other side is never as bad and is grown in at the moment. In the beginning (2/3 years ago) the vet thought it may be barbering but his arthritis is such that he wouldn't be able to reach it now and he doesn't have a cage mate just a bar buddy. Another vet who saw it said straight away it was Teddy skin, it used to get thick dry skin in that patch but that's been much better for some time. He's getting to look his age now, poor old boy but he has a huge zest for life still. Red and Brillo egg each other on in the cheeky old piggy stakes.

It looks like 'teddy skin' to me as well. My Nerys had it the worst all over her bum end at the biggest extent but Nye was also affected by it; quite badly at times - especially at the end of his life aged 6 years. It is breed specific and is what you are left with after you and your vet have ruled out everything else.

Thank you. I'm glad you said 'at times', someone else told me if it was Teddy skin it would stay bald and not grow back in, which I didn't think was right. Not that it matters as it doesn't bother him, he's had it for years and despite the common health issues that come with age (6.5) he's a happy piggy.

In my own experience it waxes and wanes over time; sometimes nearly gone and at other times it can be quite extensive in some teddies. The other teddies I had were not affected.

That probably explains Moses bald patch on his back which comes and goes.
It doesn’t bother him at all and the vet ruled out everything else.
Jemimah never had any problems.

I like the way we learn from other people’s experiences here.
Thanks for the picture of gorgeous Brillo @piggieminder

Fizz and Fuzz have a new cage downstairs with the other boys. I don't know why it took me so long to work out how to fit them in, obvious really! Red and Brillo have gone up in the world, so much easier on my back with their regular medicating.

They wanted to see if I had food the minute I walked into the room, you can tell they are starved by the lack of poop in the cage! It's going to be so much easier to do piggie daily stuff with them all in one room.

Red has just had his regular vet check, we are to carry on as we are for now. I was concerned his front feet are a little scabby but the vet said he is good for his age and they are just a little dry and scuffed and to keep an eye on them in case they get worse. I picked hi up to check him over this morning to discover a lump of boar glue stuck to his tummy with lots of hay stuck into it. I've cut off what I can but it's too close to the skin to do much.

The other's are doing well happily going about their bimbley lives and keeping the human's amused.

When I appeared with the camera Duck and Bertie wanted in on the photo op too. The other 4 stayed asleep in their beds.

What a great set up for your piggies 🥰
I’m glad it’ll help with your back !

Just got back from vets, Duck was a bit off yesterday but put it down to the weather. Got up in the night to check him and he was very off. Syringe fed him as lots of tiny poops in cage and could see hay not touched. He's being treated for pneumonia, vet thought she heard a heart murmur but then couldn't hear it again over the noisy lungs. We are not sure if pneumonia is what we are dealing with as the noise in the lungs is not normal crackly or liquid type noise. Don't want to sedate for xrays etc while he is so poorly. He has until Wednesday/Thursday to start showing improvement, then we will have to make the decision no one wants to make.

C'mon Duck you can do it! ♥️
Truckloads of healing vibes being sent from the girls and I 🐹 🐹
Tiggy is battling a persistent uri too, so she can sympathise!
Big hug for you too it's so exhausting.
Lotsa love being sent your way xx
