The Pigglingtons

You know Brillo best and have been thru this before quite a few times …..I’m not sure this Vet is on your and Brillo’s side.
I hope lovely Brillo is ok today and you get a better nights sleep 🥰

If it's just an obstruction an antibiotic won't help of course. But I still don't see why the vet has concerns about his quality of life.
Because he is old (7), has repeated noisy breathing, has arthritis and has lost 100gm since middle September. I think he's lost the weight because he's missing Red, being more active ( now has a 6 grid long run to visit Duck and Bertie), he's had something stuck in his airway twice which probably stops him eating hay easily. Even though he is losing weight he's really bright eyed and is still himself. Brillo is old and won't be here much longer I know that but I want to enjoy the time we have left not be worrying about having to fight a vet if and when I need help to keep him as healthy and pain free as we can until the time comes we can no longer do that. I'm going to ask for someone else next time he has to go there, it's a shame because I liked this vet the first few times we saw her and she was okay this time until I'd had a day to digest what she said and how it was said. I want to manage whatever is going on with Brillo with the vets help as I have always managed my pigs health not decide this ones difficult and time consuming and lets not bother. To be honest I'm angry and in tears a lot of the time because I feel we no longer have the support we need.

Thank you.
Not the uninterrupted night I hoped for, Parker and Snoopy kicked off again and I ended up on fight watch. Both very sweet and sound asleep now!

I hope Brillo is doing ok today ❤️

I hope that you will get better support by another vet.
My usual vet has hinted a few times with both Muffin and Odi in the last weeks of their lives that end was coming nearer. But they had to have regular teeth work done and all she said was that she wasn't sure how much longer she could do this because the teeth were deteriorating even further. There was no pressure. I think she just said it so that I could prepare myself (as far as that's possible).

The school 2 roads over from us had a firework party last night. The fireworks were extremely loud, obviously commercial ones, far too powerful for such a built up area. Despite us playing music and doing the best we could to keep the boys calm Snoopy and Parker both landed in the same spot at the same time resulting in Snoopy getting a hard nip on his nose after a lot of spatting and nose punching. I sat up refereeing most of the night as they were very agitated and separated them around 5am so I could get some sleep. They are now both back in the cage but divided, Parker is going nuts and biting the grids, Snoopy is ignoring him completely and is snoozing under a foot stool. I am hoping after a cooling off for a few weeks I can try them together again.
Timmy is constantly teeth chattering at Freddie, hopefully they will settle.
Fuzz is having a go at Fizz if he gets near him so Fizz is taking avoiding action at the moment.
I just hope the other 2 bonds survive. Not looking forward to tonight's firework performance! Hopefully they will be domestic ones and not as loud.

The noise here is unbelievable tonight. People here have fireworks in gardens but I've never known it this bad, they are so loud and are exploding right outside our windows. Finding it hard to select music that doesn't upset Fuzz, he is on the rampage and does not like music! Poor Fizz. So glad I didn't try to put Parker and Snoopy back together, they wouldn't have survived this noise. Thanks not to The Range and Aldi for your half price fireworks offers.

My friends golden retriever had a stroke one year when someone let very loud fireworks off. The following year someone let fireworks off mid summer at a birthday party. I knew my friend had gone out for the evening so I ran up the road (luckily I had a key to the house). The poor dog was howling and shaking, I spent the evening on the floor cuddling a terrified dog!
I hope your poor dogs have recovered and this weekend will be quiet for them. The fireworks will go on now until March, they started in September although not as bad as the last few nights. It's the ones in the middle of the day I don't get, you can hardly see them. I'm sure they just let them off to annoy.

Just caught up with your thread, gosh I’m sorry it’s all so stressful at the moment. The fireworks are just awful, we’ve had problems this year too keeping all the pets calm

Sending healing vibes to Brillo and hope Parker and Snoopy can sort themselves out!

I'm sorry you are having problems as well @JaseChase .
The boys are quite calm today thank goodness, Fuzz was still a bit grumbly this morning but not much more than his usual, he is not a piggy with a sunny disposition! I was expecting a lot of bar biting and frustration from P&S but they are ignoring each other! I feel sad that they are divided and I can only give them 3 x 2 grids each. I'd so much rather see them running around together in a 6 x 2 but they were getting so aggressive with each other and the atmosphere was so tense we are all a lot more relaxed now.
Fireworks started at 5pm today, one was so loud it set a car alarm off over the road. I think the boys are getting more used to the noise now.

Snoopy and Parker are in the bonding pen. They are a bit snappy and I'm not hugely hopeful but it's worth a try. I hate that they go face to face all the time, I much prefer humpy bonding. They are fine when eating hay or at opposite ends of the pen. It's like they want to be together but can't trust each other and start snapping when close.
There were two single returnee boars in P@H rehoming this morning one was a year old the other 4 months, good job I don't have room for more cages to try pairing these two up with other partners or I'd have been very tempted. I really am at the limit of our space now, my partner says I don't need my bed I could string a hammock up!

Not sure my nerves can stand this. Five minutes totally ignoring each other a minute of snapping and moaning, several minutes of hay eating and washing, good signs, bad signs and all signs in between, this has been going on for a couple of hours and we are not really progressing. At least I've done most of my Christmas shopping on line while I'm sitting with them!

At least you have given them the opportunity of a friendship.

Oh dear, sounds like it’s been the equivalent to a guinea pig soap opera with your boys today. I hope everypig is doing ok & the signs of friendship are a little more positive.

They are back in the cage, the divider is out, the water bottles that were at the ends are now in the middle (a divider space apart), hay in the middle (was both ends), they just have a log tunnel each which they've never had before so nothing is familiar. I F10 washed the Corex, new bottles and washed the bottle holders, clean fleece. It's up to them now I can do no more. I hate seeing them in 2 x 3 grid space it's too small, much rather they stayed together in 6 x 2. Lots of zoomies and popcorning, submission squealing and talk. They are funny, I'm used to humpy rumble strutting when bonding, this is really new to me and I'm having trouble reading it. I was going to leave them in the pen for the night but we weren't going one way or the other with that so I decided I might as well tidy up.

It was such a shame when I had to split them after fireworks were making them nervous and snappy. Snoopy got a scratched nose somehow and we weren't sure if it was a bite or an accident. They have been quite depressed apart, we only realised tonight when they were back together how quiet they have been! They just need to behave this time and everyone will be happy.

All pairs still together thank goodness.
Snoopy and Parker being typical argumentative teens but so far so good.
Brillo still bumbling around annoying Duck and Bertie. Duck bites the bars a lot when Brillo enters his walkway, this morning I told him to stop because the noise is annoying. He looked at me and started licking the bars in a very sweet way as if to say look at me I'm being the goodest. I swear they know what you are saying! Brillo certainly knows what he is doing, he wanders into the walkway goes halfway across the room when he has Duck's attention he stops walking and turns his back on Duck, he just stands there and drives Duck mad.

Bann used to do the same to Mourne. He'd go to the divider, just the other side of it, and I'd come downstairs to Mourne yelling excitedly and trying to gnaw through the bars, and Bann's facing the other side of the cage, back to Mourne, quietly eating hay like he had no idea of the chaos going on a few inches away. Mourne, meanwhile, was so fixated on him I couldn't get his attention at all, lol.

There's something wrong with Timmy. I've been keeping an eye on him since his squeaky poop last week. He has seemed to be fine since but his weight is dropping, he's grumpy with Freddie (more than usual), they had a very loud teeth chatter just now, he did another squeaky poop with pink wee just after. He doesn't smell like I would expect with an infection, really hoping it's not a stone. I've given him a syringe feed and some Metacam, will ring for a vet appointment first thing.
