Thor-pig's Neutering Thread

Thanks guys :) Appointment is at 6:30 so I'll keep you updated when I get back :)

Well, we went and we came back. Not really much to report - certainly the quickest visit ever! Go in, dig Thor out of the hay pile he'd buried himself in, watch his indignation of being tipped on his back, told all looks good, job done! I mentioned the widdle dribbles and the nurse I was seeing went to ask the vet, who apparently said it could just be bruising but to keep an eye on it and let them know if it's still happening in a week.

He's running around like a loon now, eating, drinking and trying to impress the girls with his epic rumbling skills, so hopefully the mystery vet is correct and there's nothing wrong!

When Rebel was done, I was advised to keep the op area clean, so I bought some iodine from the chemist, a couple of drops in a bowl of tepid water, some cotton wool pads and I gently bathed the incisions 3 times a day. He healed in no time - unfortunately, 6 weeks post op, he developed an abscess, so another trip to the vet to have it drained and cleaned. 2 years on, it was the best thing we've ever done, he's very happy with his girlies. ;)

Poor Rebel! Glad he made a full recovery and enjoys his wives, haha!

When Thor-pig was getting soaked from the towels (before I gave up and put him on fleece) I was wiping his whole tummy with some antiseptic pet wipes about five times a day, but I was wondering if he should have more of a long term cleaning routine... The nurse seemed happy with how it was all healing, which I suppose given what a widdley mess he was last week is something of a miracle!

We're both counting down the days until he can go in with the girls!

Rebel's hospital cage had fleece in it. He was pooping all over the place as soon as I brought him home. He used to just lie in my arms with his mouth open ready to take his medication, he was such a model patient! :))

Aww, he's gorgeous  I did have a giggle at the photo of him in his hospital cage - giving the same stink-eye looks as Thor was throwing me last Thursday!

Just imagine the fun he's going to ave when his quarantine period is up. Glad he's ok.

Here's a new one then... This morning I found his fleece covered in calcium spots. They feel powdery rather than gritty, which is good I guess, but he is straining slightly and whimpering. Back to the vets?

I would call the vet and ask.

A little update on my fluff monster :) All is healing nicely, no more wee dribbles and just the occasional tiny white spot, which I have been assured is normal as long as it isn't grainy and he isn't struggling (thankfully, he isn't). He spends his waking hours purring to the ladies next door and tearing around like a feather duster on steroids :))

Great news! Now there is just the long, long wait to make sure that there are no further accidents!

Yep - six weeks and two days to go (I was advised two months in total and I'm paranoid enough to stick to it!). Not sure Thor will be talking to me by then but I'm sure all will be forgiven when there are no pesky bars in the way!

So glad he's doing well and will soon be with his lady pigs. My new adopted by will be neutered at the end of the month to go in with my ladies so it's nice to read others experiences :)

Delighted to hear your fluffball is doing so well and practising throwing a few shapes to impress his future wives!

Lovely to hear a good outcome.

Meant to say, Thor, what a great name for a large fluffy boar pig, i may have to borrow the name if i ever get another boar. :)

I'm glad he recovered well and he continues to heal, and i hope all goes well when he meets the ladies! :)

One step closer today - Thor's incisions aren't even visible any more and the whole area is absolutely pristine (well, as pristine as man-pig bits can be :))). So it's goodbye hospital cage and fleece (which I thought I would try as a long term solution but the constant poo-picking just from one pig is enough!) and hello 3x2 c&c with Carefresh and his favourite plastic tube and wooden perch! :yahoo:

I might lose an entire end of my lounge for six weeks but pretty (fluffy) faces get away with everything...
