Tonks’ lady lumps... Op due.

I'm sure you're doing everything just fine! My top tip as a paranoid piggy slave is I was really worried about introducing any new infection when messing with the wound so I sterilised my hands with F10 hand gel before doing the wound flushing. No idea if that's strictly necessary but I scrubbed up like for surgery, hibiscrub handwashes or F10 hand gel on my hands all the time... then Tallulah just rolled in a hay tray full of poops of course and got it all stuck in her wound but at least I knew everything I did was sterile!

Haha yes I’ve put hand sanitiser on my shopping list :)) I wonder if a pharmacy would sell something better like hibiscrub handwashes/gel?

Might do, we had hibiscrub and F10 handgel in our piggy first aid box, hibiscrub from when Jezzy got a nose bite that needed bathing and F10 handgel from when Blodwen had ringworm. Bought them both from Amazon. A pharmacy would definitely have hibiscrub I think, or an equivalent :)

A pharmacy should sell hibiscrub or be able to order you some. I used to work at a dentist and we got ours from the pharmacy next door.
Sending healing vibes for Tonks and hope the honey helps too.xx

Thanks! The Cat & Rabbit vets have got back to me this morning with med recommendations so I’m really happy! They’re honestly so great.
When you buy hibiscrub from a pharmacy, please don't say you will use it for washing the animal. Hubby said that in the past and they refused to sell it to us. 🤦
Ooh I didn’t think of that, thanks for the tip. In this case it’ll just be for my hands but I presume hibiscrub is hibiscrub no matter the patient? :hmm:We’ve used it loads before for animals and humans and I’m sure there’s no difference? Suppose it’s to cover themselves but it’s still a shame!

Yeah we didn't think of that either, well hubby didn't. It wasn't an off the shelves item and we had to go ask for it from the counter. We weren't asked what it was for but Hubby just talked a lot and informed them! They said they couldn't sell us something we intend to use for animals. They said that's what vets are for.

Poor Tonks. Hope things start to improve for her. She is in my thoughts, as are you. Everything crossed for you little girl.💕💕

Ah fair enough. Yea we managed to get some for our hands :)

She’s doing a bit better thanks, idk if it’s just my wishful thinking but it doesn’t seem as bad as it was. We’re picking up the new ABs today so hopefully they’ll work well and she’ll be on the road to recovery. It’ll be a slow one I think but she’s being very good with all the flushing etc. I’m very tired! :))

So Pleased to hear Tonks doesn't seem quite so bad. Looking after a sick piggie is very tiring, finding time to look after yourself as well can be hard. You are doing great with your piggies, they are so lucky to have you.

Thank you, yes it’s very hard as I’m just worrying all the time! “Has she had enough to eat? Will I wake up to blood everywhere? Is it going to get bigger? “ Luckily she’s taking it a lot better than I am!

It’s just such a scary wound, it’s so big and I’m just trying my best to keep everything sterilised atm. Stopping her from sitting in her poo is rather challenging haha.

Might be an idea to keep a rather gruesome photo diary? So you can look back and see if things are really healing up, and show the vet if there's been any swelling or anything weird you cleaned off?
Good luck with all the piggy nursing, glad things are looking better- I think with this sort of thing, not looking any worse and still eating is a very good sign!

Thank you all so much for your support! It means so much, most people just don’t understand why I’m doing all this. I’m so grateful to have you guys who get it!

Yes good idea! That’s what I’ve been doing, it is pretty gruesome! I would post it on here but people may be eating their dinner :))

Thank you! Yes it seems a little better, not as deep if that makes sense. Just flushed it and removed hay that had got stuck and she’s promptly gone and practically rolled in her hay 🙄

Glad there’s some slow improvement.
When Jemimah was recovering from surgery last year and Priscilla from a tummy upset I made up some Critical Care and put it in a ramekin dish in the cage to boost eating.
Don’t know if that will help
Thank you! Great tip! Yes we got a cute little bowl from Tiger and have been doing it like that, though she doesn’t seem to eat much of it in her cage. Only when she’s out and being fed off a spoon while it’s still warm apparently :)) She’s turning into a bit of a diva! Sorting through the hay and picking out the seed heads for her... what has my life become :))
