What does it mean when a guinea pig chews loudly when you hold it? I know what chattering sounds like and this isn't it. It's almost like he's chewing on left over food, but I notice him grinding his teeth or chewing, whenever he's held.

Maybe he is eating left over food or maybe nervous? :hmm:

They do chew for no reason sometimes, even if they’re not actually eating something. I think they sometimes still have food in their mouths but otherwise I’m not sure at all.

I'm sure it's a normal guinea pig thing.to keep some chewed up sludge in their mouths, vets nearly always comment on it being difficult to see piggies' teeth properly when they look in their mouths because of the chewed up food! I've also noticed that when syringe feeding if the pig stops eating they usually start again if you stroke them over the rump. So maybe being cuddled and petted causes some eating reflex to kick in.
