rob and i went to PAH bromborough today and saw something we were not pleased about. A lady and her 2 young children were looking at a couple of adoption sows. the (less than great) PAH staff member opened the pen while asking her a couple of questions and gave the lady one of the pigs to hold. Heard the woman say do i have to pay for the pigs as its adoption! {:| i thought hmmmmm what a brilliant attitude.
Rob and i got the rest of our shopping and went to pay, the same lady was at the till infont of us, pigs now in 2 seperate cardboard carriers.
this is where it starts getting upsetting. the youngest child (i'm guessing max age 6 picked up a carrier, started shaking it and bashing it against the counter. i said something then the mother eventually stopped her. But the staff member said nothing and carried on getting the woman to sign the adoption forms.
we then watched the mum let the same kid carry the guinea pig (in carrier) out of the store, banging against the door frame and the kids leg on the way out.
I got served then we walked out of the shop, only to see them sauntering to the other shops on the park, but they didn't have the carriers anymore.... strange?
Rob and i went to tescos to buy a DVD, came back couldn't buy anything as it was niggling me too much, WHAT had she done with the pigs? Rob saw the car she went to it was parked right infront of the store, so i had a nose in and the pigs were nowhere to be seen.... she'd put them in the boot and gone shopping (its rainy but still pretty hot here today).
So i went back into pets hat home, explained everything i'd seen, the (excellent member of staff at the till) got the manager, i managed to keep my cool even though i was fuming, explained everything again, stating that it was the shops responsibilty where all pets go, and that the lady had only had them 5 mins and was already neglecting them. the manager said he would keep an eye out for her, and when she returned to the car he would take back the pigs.
Now i'm a cynical person when it comes to things like this, so i went back to my car, parked facing her car. we waited another 40 mins before she eventually came back. when i saw her i darted into the store, the (excellent) staffmember was already on the phone to the manager. But I was not letting those guinea pigs go back with her. so i stood behind her car preventing her from reversing (it felt like i was standing there for ages and it was chucking it down). Luckily, it gave the staff enough time to escort her and the pigs back into the shop.
the manager didn't involve himself, he sent out the (less than great) staff member who gave her the pigs in the first place.
I'm so glad we were around, god only know how she would have looked after those pigs. i was so nervous standing behind the car in case it kicked off, but there was no way i was letting her go off with those pigs. I'm still feeling the adrenelin now! rolleyes I'm sure i did the right thing.
