unhappy at PAH adoption

But I thought that other poster saw them on display this morning? So yet again P@H are lying?

You did an absolutely fantastic job and I hope the piggies get a lovely home now. I can't understand anybody who gives their child an animal to carry - I would never let my seven year old carry a guinea pig or hamster or anything out of the store. I sit in the back of the car going home with the guinea pig on my knee in the box but so my daughter can see it.:)

aww poor things! so glad you were there, One thing that gets me so mad is when people let there children "play" with the animal without supervision (even though these particular children it seems where meant to be supervised!), those poor guinneas must of been terrified! I'm so glad they are rescued, AGAIN! but pets at home really should be more careful, especially as it was an adoption process, I'm not sure pet shops should exsist at all sometimes...

I'm not against children being with animals just incase some one took what i just said wrong, I have a 2 year old boy live next door to us and we often let him stroke the guinneas and other animals I think childeren should be around animals as it teaches them to care for things...its just when you see that the parents have thought it was a good idea to get a kitten or something and you see the toddler dragging it round by the tail, :...it makes me mad! Nemo you sound like you have the right ideaxx>>>

Well done, I don't think I'd have had the nerve to stand in front of the car to stop them "getting away"

Thanks.:) I won't let my seven year old even touch a guinea pig(or any other animal) unless I'm around to make sure she is doing it properly.

I think you did fab hun, well done!

My children are allowed cuddle time with my guinea pig's but I am always there beside them. It's horrid to see behaviour like this I would of had to say something. I mean children need to learn respect for animals and the mother obviously had none so how was this child to know any different?!?!

well i went in on the way home from work today and asked about them. (i have to admit i felt very uneasy about going back). The pigs weren't in the adoption section and their sign had gone, so i asked a staff member who said "which ones?, oh them they've gone out to a family this morning". I hope it wasn't the same family, but understandably they couldn't tell me. The irresponsible staff member who signed them over in the first place saw me and gave me filthy glare (like i care what someone like thinks). I think i'm going to get in touch with their head office about the whole adoption process and let them know what happened. There is no way of me finding out about where the pigs ended up, but after what i saw i have no confidence in them being rehomed responsibly. I think thats going to be the last time i go into a pets at home. The whole thing has really upset me.

I think you should take this up, its absolutely appauling and I think they need to re employ decent staff who actually care and know about the animals they are selling.

you did your best either way! :)

I adopted my Ginger piggy from pets at home just over a year ago and what surprised me is that they only charged £9.99 for him but their normal price for guinea pigs is £20 so it makes me wonder if some people will adopt them rather than pay for a baby one because they are cheaper.?/

My two were from pets at home I'm sorry to say, I would never buy from them again though, Even the taxi driver said to me about buying from them as he had got a hamster and he had died 3 days later, iv heard many a story like that, and a few years ago they had to stop selling birds for some other reason, that cant have been good. poor guineas i hope they didnt go to the woman, i doubt it as the staff would have noticed and she might have felt aquard going back, mind you the staff were less than helpfull in the first place it makes you wonder doesnt it. x

I adopted my chinese hamster 'Peanut from p@h and all they asked for was a small donation. We gave £6.50 as that was what they were selling them for at the time. I went in to our p@h yesterday and they had a little piggy called Bob. It said that he had to be rehomed as a lone boar as he didn't get on well with other guinea pigs. He wasn't fully grown so it makes me wonder if someone had brought him to bond with another piggy, they didn't get on so the new owners returned him. When I brought Eliza, they said that if her and Connie didn't bond, I could return her to go in to the adoption centre (not that I would have done that). They also had 2 girl piggys that are available for adoption from the 15th and they are in quarentine at the minute.

I am ashamed to say i got a few of mine from there, i bought them as well not adopt, i felt sorry for them. the first one was wht seemd so small and was in with rabbits so i had to get her. then i kept going bk for hay nd food i would see others and i really felt for them and had to get them. and there was this one pig who had been there for months, she was this massive ginger fuzzy hair ball and i felt bad, i left the shop and had to go bk i couldnt leave her any longer! We also adopted a rabbit, and asked for £27 donation!! they didnt ask us any questions!

Thank god i have culled that habit. i can go in there and not want to get anymore! They are 2 for £37 or something like that. hopefully that will stock ppl buying them willy nilly!

They said that to me too about Ginger - that no way was he to live with another pig at all - I wondered what on earth he had done.:)

Sunshine I got from another pet shop but I was told the same, he could live with a small bunny! :{ I had done my homework so I knew that wasn't right and I got Twinke from P @ H 2 weeks later. There is a boar for everyone, I would always try a boar or a sow who I have been told is agressive with another pig because like us humans, they have different personalities too. Elora is quite agressive so I was wondering if that continud whether a neutered boar would be better for her but I'm hoping it doesn't come to that. However she will have a bite at anyone who stands in her way so I am calling her Margaret Thatcher until she behaves...lol

I wonder why it's different at different stores because we got asked loads of questions eg do you have any other pets? Have you had hamsters before etc etc and they didn't want much of a donation

I was asked at St Helens store when I got my three boys. I was impressed with the sales guy when I got Pudsey from the adoption centre. Guess it varies for store and staff. :)

it does, but it shouldn't.

I'm pretty sure after all the bad press they've had, they would have put pretty strict guidelines in place about selling/adoption of live animals.

I was in PAH in Warrington this morning stocking up on goodies for my new arrivals on Saturday (can't wait). Ear wigging in on a conversation with an assistant selling two guinea pigs, hutch etc. She really gave lots of advice, especially to the mother of the young lad about responsibilty. Quite impressive, which I was really pleased about, otherwise I might have had to sum up the courage to to a Joosie Miss Loosie in there! They had a lovely little piggie for adoption, because his head tilts just a bit. Absolutely gorgeous. Wish I could have had him. So sad to leave him there.
