I'm not gonna be offline we have to turn our connection off but I will not be leaving his cage or him.

Sorry, I meant not going to be online.... I've pulled myself together a tiny bit but I'm a state

Stay well all

I know it's hard, but Bonnie is right, try and relax yourself.

Thinking about you both! Will keep checking for updates until I go to bed in a few hours.

I've moved his cage right beside my bed so OH is on the couch so not to stress him and I will sleep next to my baby.:(

Good luck Bonnie

Oh no, I just caught up on this, I'm so sorry. I hope you both managed to have a peaceful night, I know how you feel as I've been up every night this week either with Fizz or Henry. Sending hugs and hope for a happier update soon

Bless you both... poor Jacob, I have had pigs with strokes here before and they have done very well. Pinball has a head tilt although this was dus to a fit and he has a really happy life although if he gets too excited he can only run in circles.

I hope Jacob is on the mend soon, I would leave him in his cage (if you worry about not being able to see him the take out the pigloo and make a tunnel so you can keep an eye on him without disturbing him.

Ah, what a shame, but try not to panic, a stroke isn't necessarily the end of the line for Jacob :) One of ours had a stroke and the rescue was not sure he would last too long, but that was nearly three years ago and he's outlived three of our much younger and fitter pigs and still going strong! He may be a bit funny for a few days assuming its a stroke, but just keep him calm and quiet, minimal stress for him etc. He may be left with a head tilt, our Dylan was but you can hardly notice it now as it's straightened itself out over time, and he's popcorned away with the rest of them since it happened, so please try not to get too upset. Jacob can lead a perfectly normal life after a stroke (assuming this is what it was). :)

Oh Katie I am so sorry to hear about Jacob, as everyone says its not necessary a really bad thing and lots of piggies have recovered from strokes. How is the littlun doing today? xx

Sorry to hear he has taken a turn for the worse, as Julie (Boureki) says, they can lead a very active life after a stroke for fingers crossed for him xx

Hi all
I'm awful sorry about not updating earlier. We had a power cut from 5am. I made the decision at 8am Jake would be best at the vets as he was not any better, couldn't walk, and the house was getting cold. The power came on, I read the posts, but it went again sadly.
Jacob is back home now but is very very ill he wets himself, has the runs, I have to bath him all over and he just lays there even when I dry him off, he needs syringed water and fed. I can't bear it but I felt I should update.
The vets at collier and brock said really they have given him pain relief and etc but it's all down to him now I don't know if that is right or if they should have given my baby anything else? I got in touch with the vet that caused this and they said "sorry he isn't well, it's not our fault sadly some guinea pigs just can't take anesthetic is all if you want us to give him medicine we will do that but just keep him warm, eating, and drinking" so I'm not sure what to do I just told them what I thought of them and the whole thing and they just said "sorry you feel that way" I don't know who to report it to, feeling very down as Flynn is also suffering hay fever right now & quite bad today. Thanks to everybody for the continued support.

Good news that he's eaten cucumber! Hope you got at least a few minutes of rest last night.

oh Kt i just read your post I'm so sorry things aren't going to well:(,i don't have much info that will help you except what Alcesterpigs advised me when Boris first got weak, maybe Vit C tabs crushed or better yet dissolvable ones in water and syringe fed to help keep his immunity up,if you want to do that and need exact directions please pm AP as it may help, sending all my love and thoughts to you and Jacob xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks all he still won't drink but he adores cucumber so I've been letting him have some of it and hopefully it will encourage him to eat more soon :) This morning, he seems to have a head tilt.... that's ok?

I'm sorry he's had such a rough couple of days. Did you ever find out what anesthetic the vets used? A head tilt is to be expected after a stroke, I think it may be one of his lesser worries at the moment.

Jacob seems fine now, he has a very slight head tilt but is eating and drinking. I called the vet and they said the anesthetic used was suitable for dogs thus making it for guinea pigs too but they couldn't give an more information....? What?:<>

I agree - what?! A guinea pig is hardly similar to a dog! I'm sure you have the right to know what anesthetic was used, I'd see if the new vets can get any info out of the vet who did the surgery. How daft that they won't tell you what they put into your own guinea!

I am relieved Jacob is doing so well. Hopefully he's well on the road to recovery and will be completely normal very soon.

Thank goodness he's so much better now, he's really been through such a lot this past few days. I'm sure your vet has a duty to tell you what anaestheti he used. Did you get an itemised bill from them showing everything that you paid for. If you didn't then you have the right to know.

Well done you for getting him the treatment he needed and for getting him through all of this.

They're probably aware that it wasn't suitable now and like most doctors/vets, do not want to admit any wrongdoing. That's generalized, of course, there are good eggs out there.

Glad he's a little better!

my goodness what a rollercoaster of a recovery or not so.....cannot believe you are having so much stress and heart ache.......surely thay should not use something made for 'dogs'....rolleyes
