When neutering goes wrong...i'm fuming!

That is shocking! I hope they blooming well apologised - and obviously as you have mentioned, give you some compensation as well as all the free treatment. I would be looking for another vet if I was you for any future piggies.

Hopefully he will just have been very friendly with Hannah.

oh my god! i cannot belive it! thats soo shocking. how do they think they can get away with it! are they going to help with the pregancy of the sow? i should think they need a good slap!
hope shes ok xx

I think that their initial treatment of you needs to be addressed as well, treating you like an idiot when you voiced your suspicions. Perhaps there is another more competant vet in your area you could use next time?

I have also heard of many reputable rescues using two weeks as a safe time to wait before placing a newly neutered boar with females.

Either way, I understand your worry, I would be furious and in bits about the sows concerned too. Best of luck there Claire.

So sorry Claire - I know this is the last thing that you wanted to happen - you are a responsible rescue-rehome and the last thing you wanted was to breed more piggies. I am so very sorry, hope that Hannah will be ok and Polly & Sunshine too - I hope Scooby will be alright after his op as well. I really feel for you through this difficult time. ((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))

That is bad, I'm soo sorry you have had to go through this.
Your vet should should be saying their sorry and grovelling as they could get really bad press for this.
I hope you get hold of the owners you haven't been able to get hold of yet.

I really feel for you.

Take care x

I feel so sad tonight. The last thing I want to do is part Hannah and Scooby while her pregnancy progresses. Scooby had such a difficult start to his life and loves and protects Hannah with all his life. He has only been with her since the end of December.

I know I have to do this for Hannah and the babies sake as not only does Scooby have a slight fungal infection at the moment but while he is still 'capable' he really needs to be on his own.

I don't have anybody to pair Hannah with to help her when she has her babies as all the others are in their group and I don't think it's fair to try Cadbury, who I have posted as available, as she might not react nicely to babies that aren't hers and I don't want to cause stress for Hannah.

O why is guinea pig rescue so difficult! :{

I had my Toddie neutered on 13th Feb & when i asked my vet how long i should wait i was told 6wks. I said how i thought this seemed a long time & was told they had had one boar who had been put with 2 girls after 4wks & had gotten both pregnant.
I did wonder if it could've been a botched op as i've always thought 3-4wks would be fine.
Twice this week i've had to remove 2 rather large globs of "boar glue" from his penis but never before have i seen it & I shall be waiting over 4wks before putting him in with Maddie as she will be 5 in March & just cannot fall pregnant.

It might be worth having a feel for a testicle before putting him in with a sow. In fact I would now advise this to everybody. Don't do it for a week or so yet though as he will still be healing.

So sorry that you've got to do this, they are lovely couple and I know how very hard it is going to be for you and for them - you do a brill job with the rescue and I know things aren't easy at the moment but spring is coming and they can only get better (hopefully) - keep smiling no matter how difficult things get :) xx

Sending Hannah and Scooby a big hug! Also I hope Polly won't be pregnant if she has not littered before.

I feel so sorry for Scooby having to go through another operation ... bless him! But I am sure all will go well though.

It is very upsetting for this to happen when you had the best intentions to prevent it in the first place! :(

Such a shame you have to seperate them, is there any way of dividing the cage so they are apart but sort of together still?

That would be a good thing to do then they can still see & speak to each, good thinking lavenderjade :)

Brilliant idea but the biggest cage I have is a Nero 3. I could split it into 2 sections but they wouldn't have very much room at all.

I don't have any spare hutches at the moment as I really wasn't expecting this to happen so I can't even alter a hutch to suit.

I was going to move Hannah into the shed in the Nero 3 and Scooby was going to stay outside in his sheltered hutch.....ho hum....

this is horrible! the vet really needs to compensate you for extra food for the pregnant sow / medical expenses for sow & boar and food for the little ones when they are born. Also an apology would be appropriate I find this terrible as the one thing you paid money to avoid has happened and seems to be through incompetence of the vet. Is there a body you can complain to about this rspca or something etc...??

Scooby returned yesterday from the vets after his second op. They have taken full responsibilty as there was a piece pf epidermis left which would have been holding the sperm. Therefore after the three weeks there was still a high chance some would still have been live.....and they were!

Scooby also had an internal hernia as a result and this has also been removed.

He is bouncing about today as normal. Nothing stops little ol Scooby, the cheeky fella. He does miss Hannah dearly though.

Hannah is doing well and is already massive. It will be nine weeks tomorrow that they were put together and i'm sure by the size of her she won't be late delivering. Babies can be felt and seen kicking and she has built herself a little nest.

I'm so glad Scooby's o.k., also that the vets have accepted responsibility. Yes, it means you'll have babies you didn't want, but hopefully lessons have been learned at the vets now.

Any news on Hannah and her babies yet - do hope they'll all be ok.

Hannah is due any day. She is very uncomfortable yet appears to still just want to play. She rushes to the bars each time we enter the room and stands still to be picked up and cuddled. Obviously she's not getting a lot of this at the moment but she will do very soon.

OH heck :{
i've been watching this thread and did not reply cause i didn't quite know how to help, and i still cant other than say i wish you luck xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Good luck darling i wish you ALL well xxxxxxxxxxxx

Dam it's no use getting cross now, you have to deal with it............hope all goes well xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

Gosh, she is huge. How many babies do you think are in there? I'm pleased that the vet has finally accepted responsibility even though it shouldn't have happened in the first place. Are you getting anything free of charge? You should be. They should at least provide you with free food for mum and babies xx

Poor Hannah wasn't the only problem caused by this certain vet. In fact out of 5 boars that went in, all 5 boars had a problem in one way or another.

I haven't posted too much about the others as some of the details still upset me.

However, the practice have accepted that the precedures that were carried out by the vet who operated were not as they should have been and we are being given some help. Not financially though. I am in the process of saving for a new hucth for Hannah and her babies as she is living in a 3ft hutch indoors at the moment because we have some very sick piggies in the quarantine hutches outdoors at present.

Thats just awful. If this particular vet has made so many errors, they need to be reported or something. It is his negligence that has caused all of this. When we take our animals to a vet, we are putting our animals lives in their hands and we should be able to trust them.

She looks like one huge guinea. l do hope all goes well. We have a particular issue with a vets near to us at a certain super store, wont name names! We went there because we couldnt get in at our normal vets where we take the dogs, We lost our dear rabbit last week after we had taken her to our normal vets who took one look at her and was quite mad with the 'other' vets. My bob goes in this friday to our normal vets to be 'snipped' as they say, l do hope it goes well for him! l will be thinking of you.

Oh bless her heart - she looks huge - hope it won't be too long for her now. Any news on the other two sows? Fingers crossed for an easy birth for you all. Take care and let us know how you get on. xx

poor hannah :( hope the babies come soon.
As for the vets grrr! that's terrible, how are they still practicing?
